Hi.

I am a college student. Recently I told my parents that I want to buy an iPad or any other brand of tablet that could use a pencil. Today, my dad send me a picture of ASUS BR1100FK. He said that his friend sell the laptop. He asked if I would like to buy it or not. I did searching for the specs of the laptop. But I don't know if the laptop is suitable for my study as it used Intel Celeron. I watch review on youtube said it's not suitable for college student. Can you give opinion for me?

Thank you.

You may struggle if you're dealing with alot of computational stuffs ..

Just get a better one .. 3/4 years is worth to invest .. don't skimp on laptop .. you will regret later ..

Recommended retail price is rm1700 for the set that comes with stylus. If you find a lower price, please confirm it comes with stylus, or maybe his friend has a special discount.

11-inch is good size for tablet or 2-in-1 convertible. 1366×768 resolution is low, but less noticeable on 11-inch screen. (15.6-inch budget laptops only a few years ago still came with this resolution.)
Being IPS, you need not worry about the viewing angles. 10-hour battery is above standards. It has built-in rugged surface so you don't need to buy any cover.

I'm not sure how much is the advantage of being able to use Windows than iPadOS in your study because I'm not sure how is the education experience in colleges nowadays.

---------

Do you want to sketch a lot? I'm not sure how smooth is the response time of the stylus and palm rejection on the screen on this convertible, and whether it can detect how hard you press on the screen to give thicker or thinner lines. Need to watch more video reviews of this convertible. iPad are the champion in these regard for a very long time. If there is a reason to pick the iPad, then this could be it, besides the aesthetics and weight of the tablet of course.

Cheapest iPad would be iPad mini 2020 (8th Generation). If you get from the official store or Shopee Mall, it will cost slightly over rm2000 if Apple Pencil is included. This still haven't include the cost of the cover. It is a smaller screen than standard iPad 2020 (8th Generation). You may be able to get used units of 8th Gen or 7th Gen iPad or iPad Air from Shopee but not sure how risky is that outside Shopee Mall.

---------

Mi Pad 5 has to buy the stylus and cover separately as well. Should cost over rm1900 for everything. Please check more video reviews about the product because I'm not sure how good is the stylus and palm rejection abilities.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE (Fan Edition) WiFi Edition is a 12-inch tablet that costs rm1900 including the S Pen. For limited time offer, the original book cover should be included as well, though it does not look very practical. The screen is just a TFT so the viewing angles are poor, but alright to look from straight angle.

Tablet experience in Android is also not as refined as iPadOS from what I've heard. I'm not sure how much have they improved nowadays.

There are a lot more even cheaper tablets such as Galaxy Tab A8, Galaxy Tab A7, realme, etc. Huawei tablets have powerful chips but might need to take extra steps to access apps from google.

---------

2-in-1 convertibles are still considered as laptops. We can compare the performance of the tablet chips like this https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/qualc...pple-a12-bionic, but can't do the same between a tablet versus a laptop.

The more powerful 2-in-1 convertible laptops that are not Celeron, like the Zenbook, Vivobook, Spin and Yoga, those would easily cost above rm3000.

Also in my opinion, OLED screens are the most beautiful screens in the world, ahead of VA and IPS.

In my experience with wireless earphones, audio will noticeably lag behind the video, unless both devices supports at least Bluetooth 5.0.

Intel Celeron N4500
4GB RAM
128GB of eMMC storage (ewww!)

Too low powered for heavier usage such as running few programs at one time. Running few programs at one time is what usually will happen when doing assignment, or taking notes, or what everyone are doing these days. 4GB RAM also not enough to run few programs, my old laptop with 4GB use 3GB after boot doing nothing, open Chrome with 1 tab use 500-600MB.

I was searching for laptop/tablet with stylus too. So far best bang for buck that I search seem to be Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5, Ryzen 5700U with 16GB RAM. Price 3.8k if use voucher on Lenovo site. Cons is have to wait 10 week to get the laptop, no dedicated GPU so not powerful enough for heavy game, not Zen 3 CPU.

Asus Zenbook Flip 13 got OLED screen, which give good black and more of that color popping. But 8GB RAM is so 2020, hard to imagine 8GB is enough in 5 years time. Price almost 4.5k

better to invest in a 2-in-1 device that can support heavy work tasks. here's 2 models that i shared in another thread:

acer spin 5: https://store.acer.com/en-my/acer-convertib...nt=NX.A5PSM.001

lenovo ideapad flex 5: https://www.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/ideapa...5/p/88IPF501453

the notebook's performance should be on par with at least that of an Intel Core i3 platform - otherwise it may not have enough stamina to remain useful over the coming years.

unlike human, computer stamina cannot grow over time.
