In Malaysian landed property, porch roof extensions can be metal sheets, polycarbonate, tiles or glass.

For the glass type, is it able to support the weight of an adult weigting 70kg to 90kg?

As in this example, if you need to cross the roof surface, is it safe to do so on the sections where the wooden beams are? Or would you run the risk of cracking the glass even if you walk on the parts with the beams?

I understand there are special ladders that can bend at angles tracking a glass surface so that you dont have to step on the glass roof at all.

I would suggest you not to do what you intend to do. Because the supporting structure is wood, wood is not a good support structure when the top is glass. Usually glass they use metal structure. More solid and sturdy, plus lasting compared to wood. If you really need to, better support the cross section of the wooden beams first, then only cross. And do not step in the middle. Step where the cross wooden beams are at. If its not you who installed it, we dont know if the glass is tempered or not. Dont risk it.

Firstly, the glass roofing must be able to serve the purpose of its construction.

If is constructed using the right materials, then it shouldnt be an issue. If you want to know more, visit OneCity office tower roof top.

Similar, the reserve water tank is placed on the ceiling wooden truss and unless the wood is destroy by termites or rotten due to moistures, it wouldnt collapse.

Wow,scary....like a time bomb. You never know when termite attack from the inside of the wooden truss weakening the structure and cause the entire glass fall down.

You can walk on the steel truss part only and not directly on the glass. this is based on the glass installer who is doing my place

I walked on my skylight tempered glass directly no problem also, i even lie down on it to do something maintenance work also.
But that was when I was young that time..now old already i think i will not risk my life on it anymore.

Thanks to those who offered advice. The glass roof is tempered glass. To "lyt25" who expressed anxiety of trusses eaten by termites, that's not a worry at all - as long as you retain an antipest company who check your building every 3 months from roof to foundation.

Anyway, I also spoke to my regular contractor today, a man in his 60s with some 40 years of experience under his workman belt. He went further by starting in no uncertain terms: "Never walk on glass no matter wooden or metal trusses." He's still alive and well, so I'm inclined to believe him. wink.gif
