I hear people always say owning a car in singapore is much more expensive than in Malaysia. I have done some research and wonder why ?

Assume 2 persons with same occupation and working experience in different country

Singaporean
Salary : $7000
Mazda 3: $95,888 (COE included)

Malaysian
Salary: RM 7000
Mazda 3: RM137,000

The cost of owning a car is much cheaper than in Malaysia, but why people like to say owning a car in sg is expensive

yes if u factor in the COE will need to be renewed after 10 years , then yes, owning a car in SG is more expensive, but I see many cars nowadays don't last so long.

Garment like to bluff to confius keluarga malaysia.

Another thing is Singapore parking charges is fairer. They charge by the minute. Not like malaysia where you park 20mins also charge you per hour

Singapore
-70%(if car initial value is less than SGD 20k before any taxes) or 60%(if more than SGD20k) car loan, rest : you need to pay.
-Max: 7 years
-COE carries big portion of the total car value: SGD45-65k, so you will lose a lot at the end of 10 year.
-parking is affordable: around SGD100-250/month
-ERP:SGD100-250/month
-high petrol cost:3.5x of Malaysian price
-cannot circumvent any laws, you will get fines more frequently than in Malaysia
-you need to bring to service or repair car in Malaysia if you want to save money
-insurance costs about SGD 2k for a SGD100k car
-Road tax about SGD1-2k/year: longer you keep , higher you pay.

if you are intelligent, you will only buy Toyota, Mazda( from 2019 onwards) or Lexus which can last more than 3 decades.

harlo, which world you live in? Cars last if you maintain it. Those that don't last are lack of proper maintenance and abuse, i.e. owner buy use/abuse and after warranty over, change car.

Expensive in SG because COE, ERP, parking, fuel cost, etc. Live in HDB - pay for monthly parking.

Cars are not a luxury item in Singapore. If you talk about affordability it is not difficult to afford a car in Singapore. However many Singaporeans do not find it necessary to own a car due to the small island and good public transport. Parking, petrol, insurance and road toll are other expenses which add to to the cost of ownership.

Mean poor ppl in Singapore cannot afford cars when say need to consider petrol, insurance and road toll.
Means you just shot yourself in the foot.
Means car is a luxury item in Singapore.

To TS, you must delusional if you think cars are not more expensive in Singapore.
Comparing Malaysia cars which can drive up to 20 years and Malaysians can buy second ones.
Singapore cars are definitely expensive and not affordable.

Public transport or not, cars will always be best if you have the money

All market research concluded that owning a car in S'pore is the most expensive in the world.

What makes you think their conclusion is wrong?
