Few factors: the lightning port is making Apple tons of cash in terms of licensing etc, Apple thinks lightning port is better waterproof than USB C, and Many of their accessories are still lightning based to charge, eg Airpods, new AppleTV remote, Apple Pencil 1st gen etc

and to me the 20% reduced notch is barely noticeable especially nowadays everything in dark mode..if they remove the whole notch then that's a different story
