Am thinking of getting an FE due to the rebates. Wanna ask the sifus, how long does it take for honda to entertain steering rack issues and how long does it take for honda to replace the steering rack?
Also, anyone has idea whether the thai facelift uses the same steering rack?

QUOTE(powerdave @ Aug 12 2024, 10:06 AM) im quite tempted also, but after some studies and researches on forum and fb group I decided to give up on getting 1 Same here. From all the research i've done, it's all the extreme of one end. It's either "i don't have this problem, driven 100k km" or "this is my 3rd time changing steering rack and it's not even 20k km yet". I don't mind the steering rack issue as long as they are ways in rectifying it permanently, however, HM seems to be taking everyone for a ride here. Hoping that they will resolve the issue in the facelift, if not, would probably skip this generation of civic and wait for another 3 years for the FMC.

Finally saw a video that portrays how bad the steering rack issue is on xiao hong shu, the resistance when turning the steering back to the middle is no joke.
At first I thought it was the tuk tuk sound and the steering couldn't go back to the middle and really wanted to gamble on FE for the pre registered discounts, but after that video, i think my life is worth more than the 20k discount.
I really hope that the facelifted FE addresses this issue, but judging by the current CRVs...

QUOTE(lee82gx @ Sep 21 2024, 06:50 PM) can post a link? Mine was a small resistance but if you are talking about substantial force needed, then I only heard happen once to my friend's 2014 City. The irony is I personally believe this was resolved even on day 1 FE since FC already so famous. Now 2nd hand price is a joke, FC 2020 is more expensive than FE 2022. Both models infamous. http://xhslink.com/a/v340YsaZrYfWHere you go, 0:07 - 0:14, it was this 7 seconds that made me decide to forgo buying this car. QUOTE(lee82gx @ Sep 22 2024, 10:04 AM) It’s typical of a sticky steering like mine. But he is doing this video from standstill and even a normal power steering will have some unsmooth and won’t return to center easily. When driving the feeling is not as bad as static. Still, it is not acceptable. I was really worried of situations like making a u turn and the steering would get stuck. I mean sure, most of the time one would probably be able to quickly steer it harder but, all you need is one bad day and bam, your car crashes into someone elses. For me personally, the problem here is not having the steering rack issue, the problem here is it is almost unrectifiable. All cars have their own issues, but some people having changed their racks 6 times and are still suffering from the same problem is simply unacceptable.

QUOTE(contagiouseddie @ Oct 7 2024, 05:54 PM) Their steering rack issue is across nearly all their models since many years already. I have a HRV 2016 make. Changed few batang already. So, the problem were never solved. Worst is, the problem from the rack affects many other parts down there as well. My mechanic friend fixed many Hondas and a bulk of them are steering racks. From all the groups i've seen and followed, FE is the worst of them all.

QUOTE(squareballs @ Oct 10 2024, 07:20 AM) I remember seeing on fb someone applied more grease and claimed solved.. Honda Canada should just follow his method 😂 This seems to indicate that the newly face lifted civic would suffer from this problem as well. At least the first or second batch, if the rumors of them are currently being manufactured is true.

QUOTE(chocobo7779 @ Oct 12 2024, 10:35 AM) Thinking about buying the Civic RS Hybrid but the steering wheel issue seems rather widespread Was contemplating V spec previously due to the RM20k rebate, but, decided against it. Having an issue is one thing, not having a solution is the scary part. I really doubt the grease is a permanent solution, it feels more like a band aid than anything. I would like to be proven wrong though.

QUOTE(squareballs @ Oct 18 2024, 08:41 PM) Imagine SC need to open the rack, regrease and perform the fix in civics, crvs I hope the technicians will have the patience to do the jobs Apparently in america they are doing it this way now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xA_o3CJhrwbut there'll be an updated easier method to smear the grease later after the official recall. Don't understand the technicalities of all these thing, but as of now, it looks like a lot of work for just smearing some grease. QUOTE(ilovestitch @ Nov 6 2024, 05:44 PM) i wonder how u guys feel ? yes! we all see there is announcement for recall. But do you guys still have confidence to 'Honda'? I held off buying one because of the steering rack issue, it gives me some time to observe whether this is a band aid or a solution.

Has anyone owned both the FC and FE? If so, is the steering rack issue as common in the FC as it is in the FE? It seems that there are significantly more complaints about the FE’s steering rack compared to the FC. Additionally, based on what I’ve observed, the FC’s steering rack generally lasts a few years before developing issues, whereas for the FE, some people are experiencing problems just a few months after replacement.
