so, suppose E spec with 1.5T, manual seats, 7in display with no android auto, 16in, and FABRIC seats, no auto wiper, likely weak sauce speaker system

vs 1.8G electric seat, 9in display, 17in alloy, leather seats, auto wiper, not so weak sauce speakers and "shitty" interior
both same price, which one will you buy? Hypothetically, Rm130k upper estimate for the E spec.

Or would you still feel justified to spend 10k more and uptrim the FE Civic to get everything comparable to the Altis, while keeping the interior that you like? (Which for the purpose of this hypothetical question means 140k for V spec).
*
Civic E RM 125,634.64
Civic V RM 138,043.36
Civic RS RM 144,350.09
COROLLA 1.8G RM 134,505.00
COROLLA 1.8E RM 123,971.50

huge toss up imho

Civic
pros
new global platform
euro conti like interiors
1.5L improved (not all new) L15B7 engine with actual VTEC Lift on exhaust for this version on the FE Civic (year 2015)
Honda Sensing comes standard to easily justify that 10k over Altis
Cons
E spec is a lot of cutting corners to really squeeze that pricing and margins
Honda after sales leaves a lot to be desired

Corolla Altis
pros
Toyota reliability and after sales
competitive pricing
Cons
OMFG dated 2007 - 2016 or 2017 engine / drive train (dynamic force WHERE?!)
CBU thailand not Japan imho is just abang adik than CKD here and imho, just blindly paying tax just cuz CBU

Sauce

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ZR_engine#2ZR-FE
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ZR_engine#2ZR-FXE (hybrid)

let me shake the trend a bit from Mazda 3 owners justifying their purchase > I am a (future) "co" (wife) owner (or more like, ahmad/driver) justifying wife's purchase laugh.gif
I am someone who's into tech and innovation and most of all, appreciates driving pleasure and enjoyment.
And with that, the Civic vs Altis base to base specs imho Civic is a clear winner here.

thanks for reminding me that i've been kaypoh-ing here since Nov 21. I was ding dong-ing between this car, tcp 1.5 FC, altis 1.8G, and corolla cross.

Now, yes with the pricing no longer a mystery, i also agree that base spec civic wins if you only look at what you get physically. long term cost of ownership, reliability, and any potential inconvenience aside.

i'm still a little sour that Honda increased the price so much from my initial budget of 110-115k. In a way i wouldn't even mind if we have a FE with 1.8 NA, sensing at 115k. I would still gladly buy it. Although, at 125k, then if you compared to the old TC you are getting the sensing stuff which is not bad (at the price of some creature comforts being taken out).

All i am sure is that many people will die less and get injured less in FE than FC. its a great price to pay.

so base spec it is (for me)
*
i only lurking past few days since wife decided recently only, so catching up on 30+ pages of mostly bullshit, but some decent gem posts such as the new/old ish FE engine comes with Variable valve lift - VTEC KICKED IN YO! lol

well similarly to my family here, as we kinda decided to get the FC during pandemic, but in the end decided not to proceed due to many reasons, not just the pandemic.
as reality goes, car price is not going to get any cheaper unless something drastic changes on our gahmen/NEP/taxation.
the price is not just creature comforts, some of the engine components (the lesser parts like radiators/water tank etc are fully outsourced to Thailand.)
If i'm not mistaken the FC still had Denso Malaysia (correct me if i'm wrong though)

but yes, with chassis improvements and Honda Sensing, FE is definitely a safer car no doubt about it.
the bright LED and smoother/better/earlier power on tap will also help on being safer smile.gif

Those who booked.... you guys not concerned with first batch issues?

Or you guys really need a car soon so there's no choice?
*
want to take advantage of SST rebate and low interest rates

7-8 years HRV needing many wear and tear replacements doesn't do much favor either.

to me, and most (more hardcore) enthusiasts, the less choices you get sad.gif

electronics replacing actual mechanical connections
x by wire, brake by wire
fake vents fake engine noises
age of electrification and eventual decline/death of internal combustion engines.

Btw can I get recommendation for DVR, is the factory package at RM1.1k worth it?

outside aftermarket many better price vs performance options lol
I'm on the 70Mai A800 / first original model (i think now is called 1s / facelifted into additional colors) and both have been performing splendidly without issues.

Outside aftermarket, do you know how the installer will dig the panels or covers and embed the wires?

Will it be same as how the OEM version installs?
*
i believe its very straight forward panel removal via those soft plastic tools/pry bars

or they can just stuff the wire in gaps of panels without even any removing.
the HRV was most challenging to fit the rear camera because of the hatch design, we had to remove many panels to access the rear wiring weather proofed grommet to have the camera wired to the rear hatch windscreen.

Sedan/Coupe without this issue, waaaay easier.

yes both cars we DIY/DIT (together) our dashcams lol

Do you tap fuse box or just the 12V cigarette lighter port?

I am a hard core diy er but my nagging wife can kill me sometimes with her what ifs on warranty etc
*
Cigarette port, we buy UGreen charger from Lazada so still can have additional cable/USB to charge phone.

My wife similar however surprisingly very open to DIY for the dashcams lol! (She worry outside break her plastic trims and affects resale value.

QUOTE
i see those foam injection things are very popular....have you considered?
*
You can ignore those especially if not planning to drive forever and place importance in resale value

Our opinions definitely differs a lot and almost speaking in different language as I'm a Motorsports enthusiasts and prefer driving 3 pedals (also a dying breed in cars) and (used to) participate in Sepang track days until reality slapping me hard needing to stop and go back to basics and strengthen my financials and wealth.

For your post anyways, it is no worries because they will add more stuff and call it upgrades.

Example: 7" TFT screen now, 2-3 years later facelift WOAH NEW 10" SCREEN UPGRADE! (Lol!)

QUOTE(angkhian @ Jan 19 2022, 10:43 AM)
Anyone considering an upgrade to the new Civic? I am current user of the FB model, now thinking if it's wise to  do so...
*
No brainer if money no issue.

QUOTE(kwk_1995 @ Jan 19 2022, 11:15 AM)
Is spec E enough? What you guys thought ?
*
Yes more than enough

QUOTE(isr25 @ Jan 19 2022, 11:37 AM)
FB to FC is a huge step up. I consider the FE is between a minor & major update for the FC. So for an FB user, it's a no brainer. If you like the looks and are agreeable to the price, just do it biggrin.gif
*
Agreed bro!

Well its the same to me.... the longer u wait also the more chances for these old cars to pop up in second hand market. Though with the recent floodings not sure if anyone would consider that...

I'm more of a tech guy so these things dont really bother me but I can see why petrol heads will be sad
*
Old cars pop up means more choices! Old cars for me is legendary JDM's that APPRECIATE in prices and thus limiting my choices as I'm not at a level that money is no object cry.gif

Understandable from your point of view because I was/and still am a tech guy (that's why I wanted some tech in my car and this chosen my car and really encouraged my wife on this FE)

I was only a car enthusiast around 2008/2009 and into Motorsports 2012-2013 ish

If no, then it will be another adventure to route cables, if you win that race take some pictures for us as a guide !

I am also looking at 70mai with front and rear.
*
If you going 70Mai A800, seriously no need worry. It's really simple and only need one USB port don't care from car or from cigarette port unless you smoker and you must use that port port for your ciggies.

3. Not sure if paint thing is a weakness - but I had bird dropping harden after parking outside for a few hours. Came back, wiped it off with wet wipes - a bit vigorously due to hard droppings
*
Honda CKD paints (more specifically, its clear coat) has been notoriously thin and soft.

This is the cheap method to make the color/base coat "pop" and look better.
The expensive methods are better/thicker clear coat along with better curing methods that most CBU cars or Conti cars have.

Beware of too much polishing/compounding as well -thin clear coat would mean you'll run through it very fast until the base coat.

yes, CKD Mazda also just as bad, if not even worse than Honda considering you need to pay extra for their premium "soul red" color (and another, or few other premium colors LOL!)
