Hi,
I am thinking of getting a Dell Inspiron 14 online. However the models these days are not customisable. I am keen to upgrade my RAM from 8-> 16GB, and/or for the SSD to become 1TB.

Other than the Dell stores, any other good recommended 3rd party who can do that kind of upgrade around Digital Mall preferably? Also does anyone know how much will these upgrades cost me?

First, u need to download the service manual and open up the laptop.

Once done, u can proceed to order the items online and DIY. Not difficult. Some laptops may need a specialized bit to open but all are easily available.

well be4 that check if ur warranty will be voided. Some brand eg acer insist the upgrade must be done by their service center to avoid voiding ur warranty. I suggest u avoid the hassle just buy laptop with ram and ssd as per ur own requirement there are alot laptop with 16gb ram , 512 gb ssd and etc. Upgrade them after few years down the road for performance boost.

Thanks all for your suggestions. DYI on myself is definitely tempting, but will there be issues if I were to use a different brand of RAM vs the one that has been given? Will there still be any incompatibilities even though in general it won't happen (again, theoretical....)

That's why u need to open up to check.

Otherwise, use the Service Tag number to check at Dell Support. It should have the laptop's specs there.

Yes, better check and get the matching speed for your laptop

It might be DDR4, but the speed can be varies from 2666 to 3200, and so many brand and model in the market.

I prefer to use most similar ram in the market to pair with the existing one..

Can use CPUZ to check it before ordering a new Ram..

Just upgrade mine..from puny 4Gb to 12 Gb... add another 8Gb Ram at local computer store. Damaged 219 (RM189 for the ram and RM30 for labour). Best investment so far... else could have smashed my laptop as its damn laggy and slow to load (even browser). WARRANTY EXPIRED long ago.

if your warranty is finished, you can do it by yourself, if no then use only official service
