i do notice that PLII no longer available and had been upgraded to Dolby Surround instead. However, Dolby Surround doesnt suit my taste that much. Reason being: the leak of vocal to surround speaker which is irritating.
PLII did a better handling on this where most of the focus is on center speaker when there's a
2 channel stereo signal being processed. Dolby Surround awaken my fronts where musical were being send to the fronts as compare to PLII where the focus of center:front:surround was like 70:20:10.
DTS Neutral:X in the other hand sound better with less leakage to surround speaker but still when i compare to PLII seems like the vocal clarify over PLII is higher over center speaker
Auro 2D : This is interesting.. This is a new format to me and i observe the audio for vocal was clearer on my center speaker and the bass seem intensify.
DTS Virtual:X - so far i havent really got chance to test on this mode. The audio seems very soft for this mode.
yep, PLII been replaced by DSurround... and true, PLII center speaker vocal was more prominent, v good for "talk-talk drama".
DTS NeuralX is more discrete, more focused; DSurround is more "spatial", perhaps too spatial, i find.
DTS NeuralX vs DSurround - i find which one comes out better depends a lot on the title and available tracks, just have to try them.
DTS VirtualX only comes in w/o ceiling/height/atmos speakers. Once installed for height1, virtual X no more... makes sense, NeuralX wud supersede it.
Auro 2D? i hv not seen this yet.
Ever tried Matrix? This selection can be useful, sometimes it comes out best!
after some reading, i realize why some titles have several audio tracks incl PCM.
i will try later using PCM and see what upmix result for each of the surround options.
this may potentially be better for older recordings...?
