Well, I suppose it would not solve your problem totally, maybe a bit better results than current setup...

I suggest u look into mesh setups e.g. tplink decos

I have much better experience/results with it compared to upgrading to just one powerful wifi router

I get a Tenda Ac2100 at first floor living hall, and a TP-Link Archer T4U for laptop, now i can get 5ghz full speed (100Mbps) at 2nd floor

Even get a reliable wifi router or TP-link archer T4U connect 2.4ghz, i still get weak 2.4ghz wifi connection due to wifi congestion among my neighbors

Also, it depend on wifi congestion, wireless adapter, router stability, etc.

Upgrading router won't fix wifi range issue. You need AP or mesh. Adding more antenna (mimo) wont improve anything if the signal can't be heard to begin with.

Another alternative is tuning your wifi to extend range by sacrificing some max speed.
You may try using lower channel width. Try use 20mhz instead of 40 or 80mhz. Lower width requires less SNR to mantain speed at given range.
Don't try to use high gain antenna, it will only worsen the vertical range for your situation.

AX10 supports OneMesh.
You can drastically improve the speed you're getting by adding one of these OneMesh extenders to your network:

reducing channel width even on cheapest 1x1 routers still gives you like 70+mbps in 2.4ghz (or at least 140mbps in 5ghz, but its pointless) for nearest clients - more than enough speed to watch movies, and has very high chance to gain you net speed increase for distant clients. And all this happen at zero cost.
But then again this workaround could only do so much, based on assumption that crowded channels are part of cause. Like any other wifi range issues - The real root cause here is due to router can't hear the client, not the other way around.

If you don't want to spend so much money then you have only one option available - pull cable to the other floor, buy used whatever n routers for at most RM50 or cheaper, feel free to explore for ac options. Then set up AP mode. Total cost for each extension would be from rm50+rm1 for each meter cable of you run.
This is actually more preferable set up then mesh in many ways.

What model is that? You can install a wifi signal checking app like Wifiman on your phone, stand at the spot where the extender is placed and see what signal you're getting from the main wifi.. -40 to -60 dBm is a good range

Mostly no. you will want just its radio part. More expensive routers mostly have more powerful cpu/memory which you don't really touch in AP mode.

BUT, expensive routers tend also come with better radio.
But then again, the radio is 'better' in an aspect that won't benefit you - things like up to 4x4 mimo to allow your router to handle lots of connected devices.
With AP mode, your devices are now distributed to multiple different routers. Unless you have a PC that has expensive PCIE wifi card, you will not benefit anything more than 2x2 mimo (generally cheap routers with 2 antenna).

If you have a double storey house, then its better to put the router in the center of the house.

ie. on the wall where you had stairs... WiFi coverage is spherical and if you put it in a corner of your house, you are just basically reducing the range of the router by half or more.

Hope you can answer below questions:
1) use 80MHz or 160MHz for backhaul?

2) wifi link in aimesh section 'Fair' or 'Great'?

3) what firmware do you use right now?

4) main router XT8 or others
