Hi guys, i just moved in to our new rental house (serviced apartment)

we are the first renter here and apparently the owner havent change the the TNB tariff from commercial to residential.

i got my first TNB bill and was quite shocked as the bill is almost double than our usual use & noticed its charged under commercial rate.

since this is the owner mistake should owner or me as the tenant have to pay for the difference in tariff?

you should have asked b4 renting, as some property holds commercial title even though it's a residential hence the commercial energy rates

tnb has the right to maintain commercial rate since it's title is commercial

Maybe the landlord is not aware is commercial rate, hence didnt inform you. Many property owners are quite blur when comes to property investment. Wont be surprised many dont know how to change a tap. They only know how to pay and collect money.

Speak to him to sort it out.

If it is a service apartment then most probably able to convert TNB takrif to residential rate.
If it is SOVO/SOFO/suite then is not possible to convert.

Anyway, conversion the takrif is very easy now.
Just let the owner know to do it via myTNB portal.

yeah i asked the owner to changed the tariff to residential,

I’m thinking whether i should ask/claim the owner to pay the differences in tariff since i’m charged almost 2x the usual due to the owner has not changed the tariff earlier.

If you insist, then demand he pay the difference.
