there was a study from western sources where most people join extremist groups cause they too free and life is tough. so they blame everything especially their gov, fueling all their anger into extremism. thats why you see extremist are very common in countries that has been sanctioned by US, as the sanction are designed as a blockade to force people into poverty, with people forced into poverty, they then will direct their blame and anger at anything, which causes uprisings.
