'Renovation' is a loosely used word where many house owners do for simple work such as changing some broken tiles, painting to demolish and rebuild. The scope of work is important and whether it requires CIDB permit, local authority approval or even an architect certification. This post has been edited by mini orchard: Sep 2 2021, 08:02 AM

The problem is if the contractor not registered with CIDB, they can't get any MITI approval to operate. Smalltime contractors had to work for a larger company to avoid registering for CIDB which can be a hassle for many.

Just to share;
The contractor needs to apply for MITI acknowledgment (declare project at CIDB with LA). Need to submit a list of workers supposedly work at the site (double vaccinated + 14 days)
After MITI issue a letter of approval, the work can commence with SOP such as Covid-19 test and all the necessary MySej, temperature scanner, log book at site.
At least, that's how my works are ongoing. A bit troublesome from pre-Covid times but not that complicated.
If there's carpentry work, register the installers together.
As Klang Valley is still in Phase 1, only by Phase 3 that it's open for all to work.

there are so many companies being engaged separately, wet works, kitchen cabinet, flooring, painting, etc., each of them has to be CIDB registered contractor, and has obtained general MITI approval, and each of they has to submit application to MITI for this particular project (my home reno), before they can start doing their works at my house?
if not, liability on whom? on me the house owner? or on the contractor company?

Attached is a penalty summon on a MITI approved contractor (not me) recently for not adhering to SOP. Even with MITI, there's still SOP. Both contractor and the property owner will be penalised. Why not engage fewer contractors? Most likely 3-4 contractors. By now, everyone is familiarised. So, getting MITI approval is not complicated. Make sure all SOP are being followed.
