He has history of depression some years back. He needs to take 5 sleeping pill every night to sleep. Last week, he keep vomitting. So we bring him to HKL for emergency. He admitted for one week and not taking the sleeping pill because doctor said his sodium is too low, 117 is due to the side effect of the sleeping pills. Before he admit to HKL, his depression also quite bad. He keep saying he wants to die and crying much. But after he discharged yesterday, he seems like worse than one week ago. He bang the door to go out from the house. He climb on the chair. He say he sees ghosts.

Every dr treats patient differently. The last thing is to put him in a place which he does not belong medically. Have your siblings tried to rotate and take care of him ? Maybe a change of environment may make things better. |

Ask those older person for some advise. It may or not work but try you must. You can also try to look for 2nd hand massage chair. Accompany him for his daily morning walk around the taman. Dont leave him alone most of the time. I think he is bored doing nothings which he used to be active during his younger days. Routine creates boredom when alone. |

My mum has similar case, but she has history of drug abuse.
Usually hkl there's a ward you can diagnose and admit, but now covid time. I heard it's not really availabe. As someone I know that was an ex patient of hkl was denied, and she committed suicide. I suppose you can give it a try ? |

Hi. I would suggest to bring him back to the emergency department.
His symptoms could be explained by delirium, either because of his medical condition, or because of benzodiazepine (sleeping pill) withdrawal, both of which are medical emergencies. |

I think sleeping pill withdrawal could be the possibility because for the last one week he is forced to withdraw from taking the sleeping pill because of its side effectHis symptoms could be explained by delirium, either because of his medical condition, or because of benzodiazepine (sleeping pill) withdrawal, both of which are medical emergencies. |

Besides taking sleeping pill, does your father take anti-depressant also?If private psychiatrist is expensive, why don't you ask them to refer your Dad to government hospital. For senior citizen above 60, the treatment and medication are free of charge even in semi-government hospital like PPUKM. My father is stable with anti-depressant (Sertraline), anti-anxiety (sometimes) and sleeping pill. |
