Hi All,

I have a question regarding modding my T1650 Desktop server. I am current using Radeon 560 4GB Single fan GPU due to length limitation (7inch clearance) on the chassis. Since i can't use a full length card, can i install the GPU vertically using the Vertical Mod kit? The only drawback i can understand is the side cover can't be closed.

A simple run down on the specs

I don't see why you can't. just make sure your PSU can handle the power for the GPU if it needed external power.

Which vertical mod kit do you plan to use specifically?
Your server only has 4 slots at the back, and it as at the bottom isn't it? It's this one isn't it? Most of the GPU Vertical kit won't fin in that case, unless you also mod that kit.

I feel like this kit may fit.

Personally, I would take out the hard disk cage. Put the hard disk in the CDROM area. Get a kit to properly mount the harddisks in the CDROM area. Then you definitely would have more space for the GPU.

I get the the point on the taking out the hdd cage but cutting and drilling might be too much of the hassle since i don't have the tool might or might become worse. I was planning getting this but i do agree the fin might the main issue to the chassis.

That's 7 slots. You will need to trim the top 3 attachment points, or more.

Most cases use rivette. They're pretty easy to take off. Try taking pictures on how the hard disk cage is attached to the chassis. If you're lucky it will be easy to take off.

I found this youtube guide. It seems to be T1650 in the video. The idea is just to remove those rivets. The easiest is to use a drill. Other options are hammer and chisel (or screwdrivers) or some pliers specialised in removing rivet.

If you do remove the hard disk cage, you might not be able to use the USB 3.0 header. In this case you will need an angled connector.

You could also take your chassis and bring it to a shop and ask them to remove the harddisk cage. Just removing the rivets should be a simple job for them. Just bring the bare chassis.

If you don't want to mod case and use the vertical kit, the hard disk cage will still be in the way. You'll have to get creative. I think putting the GPU over the CPU area will allow you to have more space. It's going to be a challenge to suspend the GPU there though. Cabling, connection and cooling is another issue.

Best you remove the harddisk cage. Remove CDROM and HDD. Use SSD instead. Then you can fit three fans on the front. Better airflow, better cooling of the GPU.

This kit will be more flexible in your situation. You might be able to situate the kit and the GPU above the hard disk cage over the CPU area.

Else, just get a long riser cable and put the GPU outside the case. Better cooling too.

Yup. Remove the HDD cage. Install fans at the front side. The least you should do to make your system lasts a long time. In y our case specifically, a blower type GPU would be better. Unless you partition the airflow inside your chassis.

Wouldn't it be easier if you just buy an aftermarket case?
