Hotel lighting is always challenging to the cameras. Your pictures suffer from bad WB. The most decent WB one is the second last from the first post but suffers from blooming highlights.

It would be good if you number your pictures.

If you look at the top picture, there are spotlights on the ceiling and one of them has been cut into half. That is the meaning of half cut lights.

By the way, the WB for Ritz Carlton series is good. thumbup.gif

You mean, when photography, we don't shoot the lights in half? Is there any solid reason?

eyeball, "half-cut lights" was a poor choice of word. biggrin.gif

what aba9785 meant was distractions. biggrin.gif and / or any other things in the picture that somewhat spoils the rest of the picture.

with the wonder of digital photography, it's good if you can crop your pictures without having distractions. if no choice, just do some photo-editing.

it's not wrong to do it as long as your purpose is correct. smile.gif in your case, a little care it cropping would do the trick.

play around with Rule of Thirds, later on just breakaway from it if you want. biggrin.gif

try to have patterns, or angles along with your object. so on so forth.

I guess you need to ask aba9785 on why he said that. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste.

IMO, the composition of that picture is not good. It is tilted, too much carpet in the frame, the end of the walkway and the lights are overexposed. This kind of shot is not easily handled by a P&S. Furthermore, there's nothing interesting in the frame to capture the attention.

then perhaps you should let the carpet hold much bigger portion of the picture. smile.gif
