I did mammogram once a year ever since I found a lump in 2014. My last year's mammo result has been postponed twice, may be thrice since dec due to covid.

QUOTE(mini orchard @ Aug 18 2021, 07:32 PM) Cancer dont just suddenly appeared. Most have signs or symptoms where many patients ignored and treat it as another minor problem. Now this make me stress because I have blood in stool more than a week 🥲As an example ..... blood in stool ... many will say is heatiness or eating too much spicy food. Just take something cooling and it should go away. They just repeat everytime until it turns into something more serious colon cancer A colonoscopy should be able to detect what is happening inside the colon and if is indeed cancer, treatment can start immediately. If is not cancer, the dr will recommend a repeat colonoscopy after every few years just to be sure. Again some people just skip it and the result can be fatal eventually. |

QUOTE(iamwilliamcwl @ Aug 19 2021, 12:04 AM) Visit a GP first to seek opinion. It can be piles or other things. He may prescribe some medication and to go back for follow up treatment. He may conduct further check like a stool test.If necessary, he may refer you to Gastroenterologist. The important thing is you must start self monitoring from now onwards and after finally doing a colonoscopy if the result is negative. You must also watch your diet .... what you eat is what goes through the system and finally comes out. QUOTE(RigerZ @ Aug 19 2021, 12:22 AM) Add question: What are the normal/common cancer screenings that a young adult should consider doing? Is better to consult a dr for the type of screening or if necessary. Unnecessary screening only creates fear if the result is false positive.Similar a negative screening result doesnt mean one is cancer free and a vaccinated person doesnt mean he wont get infected again. Even if one does screening yearly with a negative result, something can happen after a screen in the next 364 days which is why self monitoring is important. The dr only see the patient 1 day. I know an elderly lady that does a complete health check yearly but one day she detected a small lump in her breast area few months after her last check up. There are few signs when a person is not 'healthy'.....regular on off pain in a specific area, blood out from the body (urine, stool, mouth, nose, ear and eye), unusual growth on or beneath the skin and constant feverish. i bought medical insurance too before conduct any test. who know? if really so unfortunate... treating cancer is not cheap and short term also.
i usually do full blood test, sometime got package offer/addon tumor marker, i would add some of them, just for self-relief. usually do it at least once a year. sometime you never know because cancerous cell might insignificant and difficult to identify. with frequent test might detect early stage. it's just my thinking only. |

I did a blood test in early March, cancer marker tests of my choice were part of the screening package. One of them I chose was stomach cancer marker. As I'm struggling with on-off gastritis/acid reflux symptoms since 2020. Last time, my grandma had passed away from stomach cancer. I was very stressed when I received my test result. Even though my blood test suggested my overall health is excellent, the stomach cancer marker was higher than normal.
I referred my results to a gastroenterologist and decided to schedule an MRI scan. Fortunately, the MRI didn't show anything in my stomach. However they discovered a small benign tumor in my liver (according to my doc that should be no concern). Nothing else to suggest why my CA 199 test showed higher than normal reading. Btw, CA199 is actual to detect pancreatic cancer I was told. And my pancreas appeared fine in the scan. Conclusion I think the cancer markers sometimes show false positive. But nothing wrong to go and check even as a young adult, especially if you have a particular cancer history in your family. I'm supposed to go for another review soon for my CA199 marker and have been wanting to do an endoscopy for my acid reflux situation, but kept postponing seeing our hospital situation. |

We keep hearing about BP or Pathlab. What are your preferred alternatives to cancer screening besides the abovementioned two?

Pathlab got a full comprehensive package for screenings. About 300 for all marker tests etc. U can go private clinics but the test will still be sent to those two or another smaller lab |
