QUOTE(Reanne @ Nov 22 2007, 09:50 AM)
sweat.gif Haaa.... Well, personally I would advise not to put them so young together, if the female sexually matures earlier, then she will get pregnant too young. sweat.gif
*

Normally gliders would be sexually matured at 6 months onwards, I've never heard of any younger sexually matured ones tongue.gif

If the female matures earlier, but the male not matured, cannot also right... Hahaha, just saying...

Some people i know who keep a pair of male and female together from young have not gotten any off springs even when they're already 10 months plus...

That's why we have some people complaining or asking, why my gliders all already 10 months or 1 year, but still no babies?

Each glider is different on every term... Mebbe staying together from young makes them too comfortable with each other to even mate sweat.gif Haha laugh.gif

I think that still depends on people's view, but proper introduction is a must no matter what age they are.

Well, okay...

Cuz I've heard many people that keep their male & female pair from young haven't bred yet, that's why...

Yeah, once bred it will definitely effect the female... Not much can be done unless you don't breed them...

Speaking of which I haven't had the chance to actually talk with Dr. Yeoh about that... He is one busy doctor lah... Wanna talk also so fast-fast... laugh.gif

The easiest way is to just type any key words that you need to know about in Google and wah-lah, you'd be getting tonnes of links and answers wink.gif

Anyway, some places you can refer to(which I Googled it too) on introducing gliders:

http://www.sugar-gliders.com/glidervet-5.htm#intro

http://www.petsugargliders.com/sgintro.php

http://www.glidersanonymous.com/introductions.html

There's a lot of stuff that you need to read about, don't skip! To know the proper care and such about gliders, you must read, and read, and read... Different sites will tell you slightly different things, you must digest and think carefully of what suits you and your glider best.

Good Luck!

Yes, we are aware of the pet shop in OU near Eneos tu. We have discussed about it before.

They sell cheap gliders which is most probably sub-adult or adults.

Health wise, don't even ask.

We have also advice people not to buy from there.

Bear in mind, cheap gliders are mostly sub-adult/adult that are not tame and requires a hell lot more commitment, work and a lot of patience.

---

How big was this 700+ cage?

You can look for big cages at Pet Safari Ikano. Some are reasonably priced too.

The biggest cage which I find is suitable for keeping gliders(or3-4 adult human in it...) is only RM450. But it is too big to be kept indoor... There is also one that is RM750, but funnily enough it is smaller than the RM450, perhaps the manufacturer is different...

Then today is their lucky day wink.gif This persimmon I have is very-very scweet! laugh.gif

Mine don't really like ciku, normally they don't finish it off and jsut leave the whole cage to become smelly...

Ohh dear, I'm guilty for not cleaning their cage last weekend and this is the first time it is not cleaned for almost 2 weeks! Arghhh!

Tomorrow morning must clean it fast...

Why is December taking so long... Wanna get their home fast...

Aiyar, the hardware crash has deleted my prev post sad.gif

Blehhh...

Anyway, my monsters love persimmons now biggrin.gif Every time I give them a bowl full, sure licin the next day tongue.gif

You can bring your suggies outdoor, during the day, it is less likely they would run off a tree or building unless you persuade them to... Most likely they would sit on your shoulders or jump to the nearest person to you... But bear in mind there is always a risk of them jumping off to somewhere at a speed that would startle you to even think of what to do. So it is best to carry them in a pouch or a suitable carrier and take them out to handle once in a while only smile.gif

NO... I don't ever, ever, ever tie anything on my suggies!

They are not dogs or any other crawling small animal, to attach a leash or anything.

They are very smart. When truly bonded, they will recognize you as their safest place and will not run off from you without a reason and will run to you if they are scared or feel threaten.

Vincent,

I feed my suggies according to their wake time. They used to wake up late before "puasa" time, like after 11pm onwards, but now they seem to be up after 8pm...

I will ensure there is food available for them when they are up. So I will feed them a little as soon as they're up and add more right before I go to sleep. Then when I wake up, I will remove what ever leftover and add a little bit more food, just in case they wanna nibble on something smile.gif

-----

I used to keep pets "sorok2" from my dad during school days cuz my dad does not like me keeping pets... Lucky my mum was okay smile.gif I used to keep them in my room lar...

Now I can keep pets easily(well not that easy... but atleast don't need to hide, except when my dad comes over my house ler tongue.gif)

Family will marah because they just want us to give priority to studies ofcourse. If you can prove that you are good at handling everything equally, then I don't think it should be a problem... However, keeping a glider while you are studying is a bigger commitment and challenge as they need a lot more care and attention.

i got this from a website...problem solved...i think...

what do u guys think ?
*

I don't really bother about giving them to eat eggs cuz it's already in the mix and they will always clean their bowl of mix wink.gif

About piggyback riding, I think your female is still young and sees your male as an adult, so she does it. Eventually she will stop when she is big enough. Nothing you can about it.

Yes, what the site has explained is true. No two gliders are alike, some can be picky, some not and some are extremely picky. It all draws down to how we tackle it. It is important not to always give in as we know they need the right balanced diet.

Try feeding them the same thing 2-3 days in a row will eventually work.

Don't be put off if they don't eat something you prepared for them. They might not have the interest that night or two but will probably finish it all up the next time you try. It's all about understanding your suggies smile.gif

QUOTE(silverwineus @ Dec 1 2007, 10:09 AM)
I give them just a few selection of veges that are intended for my guinea and tort, like sawi, kangkung, carrot(they especially like this one), cucumber, spinach and the like.. i don't know whether oyster mushroom is good for them, maybe some may advice me on this.

I observe that suggies are fond of sugary food. I think veges are rather plain in flavour, so it won't appeal much to the suggies. If you were to put apples, mealworm and veges into a bowl and test them, they will most likely go for the mealworm first, then apples, and finally the vege. Do you all agree?

Therefore i will leave only the vege with them for the night, and since that's the only choice for them or starve, they will settle on for the vege.

---

I believe your suggies will love mealworms, but i have come to know that its content of fat is high, so nowadays i am not so generous with mealworms but rather the crickets.
*

Hmm, I don't think oyster mushroom is something I would give them personally... Don't think it'll do them any good.

Yeah, the name sugar glider is derived from their liking of sugary and sweet things, so how can they resist it smile.gif

I for one love to make sure that their food is of something sweet(except for the mealworm ofcourse...) I make sure the fruits are sweet enough, the mix is sweet enough, even the vege I love to give them is the sweet peas tongue.gif

And yes, I am guilty for over indulging my suggies with mealworm tongue.gif I just can't turn down those hungry plea faces tongue.gif And despite all that, they're not as fat as I want them to be tongue.gif Hahaha... *Kids, don't try this at home*

Had a so-so wonderful weekend. Had gotten some time to let Iggy roam around free and this time cautiously let Luna out to(which I end up looking for her and found her near the large vase as she would not stay on the curtain or come to me like Iggy does shakehead.gif )

I still cut their nails during their sleep. Although half awake, they know it and will always pull their hand back or make a 360 turning in the pouch which makes me have to rotate the pouch a couple of times before successfully cutting all their nails sweat.gif

But it still needs to be done every week smile.gif

Haha, I didn't tell my husband about getting Iggy before I got him... I just kindda brought him back tongue.gif

I gave my gliders a very ripe Kiwi. They love it. Also, I realize my gliders know the difference of quality oranges hahahah.... this time got hold of oranges which are not so juicy, they didn't touch 1 piece also.... so I substitute with carrots. Later gonna find some bunga raya for them hehehehe.

Iggy, he must be a darling already after neutering. He still got scent mark?

My gliders are funny. You know your cage set? Well, Kiah likes to sleep and hide in the tunnel, while Kapi hogs the sleeping pouch. But sometimes they will both cuddle in the sleeping pouch. Then at night, they annoy me by jumping on the hammock on and off.
*

Last time I tried giving them Kiwi, they love the sweet ones only... You know lah cuz sometimes Kiwi got a bit "masam" rite... Ohh, but then, the seeds will be very messy doh.gif

I think Iggy is still his same ol' self but getting much more clever ofcourse... Knows how to sneak out past my arms even in the smallest opening and perch on my shoulder waiting for me to take him to his playground sweat.gif

Nope, no more scent marking, no more balding biggrin.gif

Haha, it's great to know they make full use of the cagestuf rclxms.gif I have not heard any feedback on the tepee... So far the tunnel has gotten good feedbacks wink.gif

Ohh, do take pixs of them with the cagestuf, I will add a suggiestuf photo album in my sales thread to make it interesting wink.gif

guys...

issit true that dominant female is harder to train?

and for us to know wether its a dominant one is ; the female glider which

are dominant will try and groom other gliders by forcing grooming, and those

dominant one will try and actually like so called show off?

i gave abu and ally, yakult ace..issit okay? but sikit oni lah...the yakult

straw i fill it up twice..thats the only amount...

Added on December 6, 2007, 8:55 amanother thing...how do u guys intro crickets to ur glider?

feed them alive or dead? and how to actually put insde the food place?

the cricket will jump off and run rite? or patahkan the jumping leg?

and the amount? hehe

Added on December 6, 2007, 8:58 ami got this statement from a website..

insects in general, are low in calcium, so they should be gut loaded with a high quality diet containing additional calcium. This means that insects, such as crickets, must be fed a special supplement prior to feeding them to the sugar gliders...

how?
*

All training or bonding takes time, never heard of training a dominant one will be harder.

If force grooming shows dominance, then my Iggy is just that, but he's the sweetest suggie I've ever had.

Yes, Yakult is okay, but very little amount only, I give mine sometimes too smile.gif

Crickets you hold and give to them, not leave in a bowl or in the cage, ofcourse it will run away. Unless you put it to sleep first by putting it in the freezer for a few mins, they will sleep almost immediately.

I think 2-3 crickets is already filling enough.

About gut loading, no need a statement from the web, I have already mentioned about it in the diet section in the 1st page. Gut loading also has been discussed several times, try looking it up.

Misa,

Persimmons was an immediate favourite to Iggy & Luna (especially Iggy!) It's sooo crunchy & sweet!

There are many-many websites created about sugar gliders, but not all gives out the correct info. Some are just simply created and never been maintained.

The best info to choose is from a site which is maintained regularly and the owner has years of experience keeping/breeding sugar gliders.

I have heard of people feeding their glider bread because he saw it on a website... doh.gif When I asked for the link and checked on the website, it was a totally crappy site, with so many shortage of info...

For reference, most of the best suited sites are listed in the 1st page smile.gif

You can read thru a few and decide which one suits you best...

Personally for me, I will always refer to - suncoast, petsugargliders, thepetglider and ofcourse sugarshack smile.gif

Bravery part is on yourself. If you are afraid of them, then it is hard to tame them.

You need to show that you are not scared of them. If you do, then it will be a hard and long bonding process.

That is why, reading and research before getting one is important.

Okay, I have an interest to adopt a sugar glider, but I already have a cat in the house. Has anyone here tried to introduce gliders to cats and not result in the cat having the glider for a snack? The cat is really tame and doesn't leave the house, it doesn't hunt birds, just lizards and roaches.

I live in an apartment so I can't put the glider outside the house (people lalu-lalang)
*

Please read more on suggies before getting one.

Lots of info in the 1st page.

It's not easy keeping a cat and a glider together. Cats are natural enemies to glider.

I have gliders and a cat at home. My gliders have one room for themselves and I never let the cat enter that room.

No matter how tame a cat is, there is no predicting what they will do to a glider. Some cats will probably get it killed by being too playful.

It is hard to introduce a cat to a glider. A dog is better and possible.

If you wanna keep both, then you need to prepare special separate place for them to be safe.

I have not test waters cuz I have seen the way my cat looked at my gliders and how my gliders react to my cat.

My gliders go crazy, jumping all about the cage and my male one is on the look out for the cat if he comes nearer.

Instantly I know, it is not a good idea to take my glider out and show it to the cat.

If you want to test water, you will need a volunteery glider to show to your cat and bear in mind, things can happen in a split second and thats it...

I've heard of successful introduction of cat and glider being friends and such if both has been introduced since young. Meaning very young kitten and very young glider... But still, they can never be left alone without observation even for a second.

Keeping a cat and glider in the same space is not advisable... I'm staying in an apartment too. My gliders have one room and my cat has the balcony but is free to roam about my apartment except my gliders room. My cat also never ventures out of my apartment, he is an indoor cat.

Whenever I take my glider out to roam in the living room, my cat will be locked outside in the balcony.

That's just how it has to go. I don't wanna risk losing my glider.

It all depends on the material you want to use and which hardware shop you intend to get the material from.

Scout around and do a rough calculation, you will definitely get the cost.

But I think for a DIY appx of that size won't cost more than 100-120.

Yes, they can fight over food. If it gets too bad, you need to prepare separate feeding stations or else one of your glider will suffer and not get to eat.
