Hahah... many people do not give pinkies coz some thing it is wrong.... some would prefer to give cooked chicken. Pinkies should be given once a week, it is a raw form of protein. Normally 1 pinkie is enough. I wouldn't get pinkies from petshops coz abit unhealthy, rather breed myself but now no births hahahah.

It is up to the individual, feeding pinkies can be either interesting to watch or gruesome.

so..is it really wild & untame?

Yups.... most likely you will get bitten very hard and even bleed from them coz they got no trust for humans. Their health is not good also coz they have been on a diet of cheap catfood, apples and pears. Cheap of course would come with problems.

i agree with u
when i was there,i saw the tokey jz gave 'em to eat apples, cat food, pears & 'sengkuang'.
besides dat they lived in uncomfy condition
everyone tried to hide from the light by 'berhimpit2' into da bekas makanan
so poor hmm.gif

i'm scared of being bitten or hurt cry.gif
*
Yah, really kesian them. They need some place to hide also cannot, so they hide under each other. I fear they may have poor health, diet also so cacat already. I frequent that shop to get other stuff, so i do see them almost once in 2 weeks. People buy them for breeding.... so their only comfort in life is each other and breed.... no human love and affection.... kinda depressing.

Yups.. to import from US or UK or whichever country that has them is too risky. That is why hobbyist breeders would never ship out of country, only in their own country and also certain states.

I would say we are lucky to have sugar gliders already, so we should not be picky with colour heheheh..... These days rare coloured pets have become "collector's item" as can be seen with a few reptiles.... hahahah... like me a bit when it comes to leopard geckos but reptiles are not so bad to ship if they are legal.

We got a few variants of grey.... there is the black beauty, which is the dark grey..... There is champagne, a light greyish yellow. We got some brown greys.... and brown hahhah.... I have no idea what the names of those colours are but we can find it here and there. All grey variant joeys would come out grey but as they mature, their colour changes...

I think the scary part is the journey, shipment and quarantine.... My friend's dad took close to 4 months arranging, getting export permit and also permission from Indonesia to ship his gliders from here to Indo.... finally, next week they will be flying over but it is still riskly and long. I wonder how much is the whole process too.

like the white face, albino or those mentioned above...

those kind of glider is not from the normal glider that we are keeping issit ?

i mean, like they mate, then their joey like become abit so called cacat lah..

like jadi albino like that...or those kind of gliders memang from tua to

muda, from datuk to cucu memang like that wan???

Added on November 22, 2007, 7:49 amanother thing...today...i went out, then suddenly my gf's housemate like sms

us, stating that, my ABU n the female are actually mating...coz she said that

there were noise from inside the cage, then she saw that ABU was actually

chasing the female and he was like kinda on top...are they actually mating?

coz ABU is like 3 months old and the female is like 2 months old..at first she

though that they were fighting..but then again..she say like they are

mating rather then fighting
*
Cacat? No.... actually, human albino also is not called cacat, to us they may look odd but they just lack pigmentation. So Albino and leucistic are quite sensitive to light, albinos are more prone to skin disorders if they are exposed to the sun too long and their eyes may become weak too. Luckily gliders are nocturnal hehehehe...

Not mating lah. LOL..... Abu is still a joey, your female is a joey. Abu manja, he wants to be carried. That is how the mother glider carries her joey when it is out of pouch. The joey would cling and ride on her back. So if Abu is on top of her, he is just asking for a piggy back ride.

All gliders sexually mature at around 6 or 7 months onwards.... breeding too early is not so good so some of us here, we practice separation 1st and only let our male and female gliders be together when they are passed 7 months.... troublesome but this is to be safe lah.

If the male is older than the female by a few months, then for sure the female would breed once she reach breeding age.... but if both are same age.... it could be either breeding once mature or later.... yah, each glider got their own time lah, depends also.... I think the best breeding age is when the female is about a year old....

Mine like Persimmon and Ciku hahahah.... after they have tried those, now don't want papaya already. Naughty gliders. But then not all Persimmons are sweet.... sometimes we get the ones that aren't really ripe, then the sweetness is not there but crunchy like carrot hahaha.

The biggest mistake is getting a pet that is cute but never knowing the care of the animal carefully before purchase... impulse buyers, these type of pet buyers are all around.

Price, how many times have we told about the price? Just search the thread, can find the discussions on price already....

If you got interest with any animal, then the price is nothing to look at coz different sellers got different pricing and different quality.

hello there..im noob at sugar gliders..thinking of getting one..but still studying about it b4 take it as pet..i got 1 question..if we bring them jalan2, if he ran n climb onto a tree and never came down...how do we handle it?hehe

p/s : saw this 1 shop at USJ he sell a pair of sugar gliders for RM280..i tot 1 suggie ppl usually sell at 300++..so cheap aa that shop  hmm.gif
*
I can get 1 pair RM240 lah.... adults are usually cheaper coz they are wild. Nobody wants them unless for breeding so that is why cheap. Joeys cost Rm300 coz there is a high demand for them and they are easier to bond and tame with. Never trust what you see at petshops. No sane petshop would sell 1 pair of tame gliders for RM280, they are seriously making losses coz even the supplier would sell them at RM200 a joey.... No supplier would sell 2 joeys for Rm200....

Hi guys, this is a home for my suggies buddies, made of an aquarium frame 6 ft tall and 4 ft wide,
a wooden frame for the doors, i think i should put proper tents and hammocks rather than unused cloth.
*
Wow, that's a good and creative cage. How much is an aquarium stand/frame?

Put a sleeping pouch and hammocks lah. My gliders love their sleeping pouch and tunnel that I got from KP.

QUOTE(buttercup07 @ Nov 28 2007, 07:01 AM)
can u put more photos from different angles and nearer?

nice cage btw..

how many suggies u have there?

Added on November 28, 2007, 7:23 amguys...i came across a site...stating that...the fella gave his suggies a dry

food, monkey biscuit...what kind of biscuit is that ar?
*
Monkey biscuits are like large dog food. Well, they look like dogfood but infact are much healthier for gliders. They rarely give the monkey biscuits dry coz I actually got hold of 1 piece before from Cheaka.... super hard. You try and bite, sure your teeth also sakit. So people who give monkey biscuits, they actually soak it in some apple juice first.

Again, monkey biscuits are not sold in Malaysia or even in Singapore..... you have to import from US.

do u tie their neck?
*
Gliders cannot use any leash or harness coz it is very dangerous for them. A harness can tear their skin that they use for gliding.... also it can choke them since they would jump. Last time Pet Safari used to put hamster harness and leash on gliders, but I think something awful happen so they do not do it anymore.

How are your gliders doing now?

QUOTE(vincent09 @ Nov 29 2007, 09:21 AM)
DIY staff very nice 1 thumbup.gif can do many thing than those cage that selling at pet shop there.

But 1 problem for me, actually how long that we need to clean the cage? 1 time per week? per month?  I wash it after 1 week.

Oh yea, sogoatticus, is it your cage putting at outdoor? My mum always want my pets put outside the house, but my area alot those, bird, cat, insect .....
*
Clean once a week lo so it won't be smelly. Gliders bond well with family if they are indoors but sometimes family do not like them inside, so no choice, I guess some need to put outside. True you know, alot of dangers outside like cats....

Added on December 1, 2007, 7:32 amWhat should you do about a sugar glider who is a picky eater and who refuses to eat the healthy food you serve him or her?

First of all, you need to understand normal sugar glider behavior with regard to eating. You should expect to see some "leftovers" most nights. Sugar gliders typically eat part of what is offered, throw a part of what is offered around (hence the need for a "Critter Hut" or something similar to minimize your cleanup time) and ignore part of what is offered. This is normal sugar glider behavior. If you are expecting your sugar glider to lick his bowl clean like your dog does, forget it! That's not how sugar gliders eat. Additionally, sugar gliders will sometimes eat very lightly for 2 or 3 days.

Another type of normal sugar glider eating behavior is to ignore something the first few times you put it in front of them. That doesn't necessarily mean they don't like it. Multiple offers of the food over a period of days may be necessary before a glider will try it.

When dealing with a picky eater, remember that if permitted, a sugar glider will pick out its favorite foods every night and ignore the rest. In that sense, they really are like children. It is up to you to provide variety so that your glider doesn't eat the same thing every night.

If your sugar glider won't eat its fruits or vegetables, try feeding a fruit or vegetable first, after you remove all other food from the cage. Feed the rest of his food an hour or two later. If this does not work, then feed only a fruit or veggie for one or two nights. A glider usually will not starve itself to death. After one or two nights, he will probably eat the item in question.

If your sugar glider won't eat its protein, mix the food you want him to eat with something else you know he loves and can't resist. You can try mixing protein with low-sugar apple juice, applesauce, yogurt, etc. Use only enough of the treat foods to get your sugar glider to eat the food you want it to eat. Don't overdo the sugar especially. If you have a sugar glider who is refusing to eat his protein, you may have to try putting out only protein foods for a day or two, until your sugar glider is hungry enough to it it.

i got this from a website...problem solved...i think...

what do u guys think ?
*
I guess you can't do anything more about the flies.... unless you beli the lilin for insects lah. Everytime makan time, you light up the lilin hahahah... romantic feel.

It is natural for a younger glider to ride on an older glider. So no need to stop it lah, they will learn.

What the website said is true. Gliders can be picky and they are not dumb to not eat.... so eventually will eat lah.

QUOTE(silverwineus @ Dec 1 2007, 10:09 AM)
It seems like your abu and suggies very manja2.. Mine is not exceptional as well, quite manja too. Even though they take it for granted sometimes, but love covers all.
Oh you want my salad recipe? Hehe..
Nothing extraordinary la..
I give them just a few selection of veges that are intended for my guinea and tort, like sawi, kangkung, carrot(they especially like this one), cucumber, spinach and the like.. i don't know whether oyster mushroom is good for them, maybe some may advice me on this.

I observe that suggies are fond of sugary food. I think veges are rather plain in flavour, so it won't appeal much to the suggies. If you were to put apples, mealworm and veges into a bowl and test them, they will most likely go for the mealworm first, then apples, and finally the vege. Do you all agree?

Therefore i will leave only the vege with them for the night, and since that's the only choice for them or starve, they will settle on for the vege.

I think, suggies have all their likes and dislikes, if yours do not like scramble eggs, you can try by just giving them the yoke and see what happens. Another method which has already been mentioned below is to mix the yoke with Gerber's applesauce or honey. Hopefully they will layan. Well, let me know what's the outcome.

This is the first time i heard this, using daun serai as a deterrent to flies, hmm..
If you are really really annoyed with this fly, then install mosquitoes netting to your entire house just like mine, of course that's just meant for joking..
You can use mosquito netting for your cage, but it won't be able to shield you from the very small flying insects. It can prevent the larger ones though.
Or you might want to bring them in with a carrier and let them eat in it. Place the carrier at a place that's safe from insects, maybe an enclosure with locked doors or window.
If possible don't leave the food there for too long.
I used to let my suggies eat in a small cage and membelai them while they eat as a way of bonding.

I believe your suggies will love mealworms, but i have come to know that its content of fat is high, so nowadays i am not so generous with mealworms but rather the crickets.

Well, nice effort, thanks for sharing the website, it's indeed helpful, let me know what's site is that if you will?
Have a nice weekend to all.. smile.gif

Added on December 1, 2007, 4:59 pm

For those who face a hurdle before they could keep their pets will cherish theirs more..
*
Yah, put mealworms first, sure finish it the first then only fruits. Veggies, it depends. You should try getting a bunga raya for your gliders and give it to them. I enjoy watching my gliders attack and chew on the flower. It is also a nutritious treat and the hibiscus plant is one of the very few safe flowering plant.

About the flies.... is not really the daun serai.... but the root. Getting hold of a large bunch of the root, then pounding the base to release the oils and put it near the source where flies come, it can lessen the flies, same with many types of herbs like mint and rosemary.... but once it dries out, then the flies would come again.

Crickets are better than mealworms. Good protein.

How many gliders do you have?

After seeing your cage, I wanna make one already. So much easier to buy the frame.

Whoa, it's been such a long time since I last checked this thread out.  tongue.gif

My sugar glider's made himself comfortable sleeping next to my keyboard. I'm having the toughest time cutting his fingernails these days. He's a lot more naughty now that he's older! Can't sit still for even two seconds, especially when he sees the nail clipper. Smart fella.

Anyways, good to see some of the old familiar faces and to the ones I don't know, hi!  laugh.gif
*
Ahahah... welcome back. Yah, you had not been in here for such a long time, now already V4.

Gliders are smart. They know.... now my Kiah and Kapi never let me cut their nails properly. They would struggle and jump away when they see the nail clipper.
