Ofcourse, when the cage upgrade is done (be it DIY or buy a cage) I will share it here smile.gif

About the rashes, do you trim their nails? Trimming their nails can reduce chances of getting scratched or poked onto thus reducing the rashes.

If you let them climb about you, you need to trim their nails atleast once a week. I try and make a point to do it every week, if not, I will end up having rashes too after their climbing sessions sweat.gif

Just yesterday I dunno who left a little scratch on my right hand and it itches like hell. It gets really-really itchy from minor scratches from their nails or the nibbling that Iggy loves to give me sweat.gif What I normally do if this happens after handling them is, wash the itchy part throughly with water and a little soap, let the water run onto you skin for a few seconds and then pat dry... Normally it will go away... But on extreme itchy cases, I will apply some tiger balm onto it after washing my hands... I guess I'm used to it already... Something about their nails and teeth can cause itchiness to me...

Last week, didn't cut Luna's nail for 2 weeks and when she did a dash under my shirt onto my shoulder, she left some lovely itchy red scratches which was also a total pain when I took my shower shocking.gif

You are spot on, i think it's time to trim their nails.
After washing with soaps and water and applying Nixodem, it does relieve.
I don't know you are aware of this statement i read before.
It says that the saliva in combination with their sharp nails can puncture the skin and cause a condition known as dermatitis.
That's why "Something about their nails and teeth can cause itchiness to me..."
My friends or family misunderstood as being unhygienic, and that's the impression they have on me, haha..

Yeap, trimming their nails will help a little.

You Nixoderm. Me tiger balm works best since I was little wink.gif

Yeah, I dunno if everyone else gets it, but my skin is like that, even cat scratch or playful bites makes my skin itchy as well...

My Iggy loves to nibble-nibble my arm everytime I put my hands/arm in the cage especially feeding time... His nibbles are really little and doesn't really hurt, but just a few seconds later, little red dots will appear and I can't stop scratching it until I have it washed...

Right after long-nailed-Luna-on-my-shoulder incident, my shoulder turned red with little-little scratches to be seen, my husband was like, "what happened to you?" I said "Luna lah, climbed onto my shoulder and left it..."

It's not about being unhygienic at all.

For Malay people, they'd call it "bisa kuku or bisa air liur binatang"...

Hydrocortisone cream/ointment can reduce inflammation. These rashes appear because their claws, the irritants in this case, trigger our immune system, release some substance to cause inflamed skin. But i don't know which drug store has this.
Your cat and iggy and luna quite playful yeah..

So nice you guys can bring pets to work hahahah.... luckily I can do that at the college I go to hahahah.

Anyway, the last gathering had alot of planning. It was a great BBQ and very comfortable. We can do that again since Reanne's friend doesn't mind us having another BBQ party there.

But it would be great if we can do it at a place that is easy to travel to... See how lah, plan now, only next year can have hahahah.... got lots to get ready.

Gerbil owners also asking when will we have the next small animal gathering.... maybe do a combine small animal gathering again.... see how it goes.

About the nails thing, I get loads of scratches.... from every pet I have.... people think I abuse myself I LOL...

Added on December 14, 2007, 8:30 pmDiarrhea.... well, the one thing is to cut on the fruits and mealworms and whatever glider mix is given. Then feed some raw or cooked pumpkin and cooked sweet potato.... somehow this works for some diarrhea cases.... as diarrhea dehydrates the body, you have to purchase 100+, shake out the CO2 until the drink is flat with no bubbles, then dilute it to 1:1 water.... you can also use Gatorade, which is better.

Guys, need to know more things about SG.

Will they stay calm in the pouches if we take them riding in a bike?
Just wondering since motorcycle is my main method of travels.

Yes, gliders can get used to almost anything, if given the patience and time. First take it a few times on your bike for a few short, quiet rides in your neighbourhood. Later slowly take it to noisier places, take it a step at a time and it will be used to it with no problems. But make sure your glider does all its business before you put it in the pouch and get an extra strong clip to be sure your glider CANNOT open the pouch while you're on the bike.

Chances of that happening are not likely with bonded gliders, but with gliders that are not bonded or were not exposed to the public, chances are much higher.

Hello People - been busy.
Seem's that nail trimming is a problem, what about buying one of those "rough" perches that are sold for birds to keep their nails trimmed. Would that work instead of clipping them all the time ???.
Hun - still got your goodies here will be in touch later as my friend may be coming back to Thailand next month. Actually I hope he does as i have ordered some things from Malaysia from him

I dont think thats a good idea because it's probably too rough for their feet. Birds have scaly feet, so their feet can withstand the roughness.

There are many types of ubat you can sapu, a pharmacist will be best to recommend you that.
But since prevention is better than cure, so i'm thinking of making sth like a sleeve and wear it on when i handle them.
Since inflammation is caused by widening of the blood vessel by the release of substance from our immune system, so logically, if we want the blood vessel to shrink, then we can try applying ice.
But i don't know it will work.
Beside of applying hydorcortisone cream, you can find out for cool compress. I don't know the white cream for eczema that can be obtained from clinical doctors will help, i use that very often for rashes as well, but i don't use that in this case.
Why not think of wearing sleeves or sth, then it might solve the problem.

How come your female is thin? Is she not getting adequate food? How often you feed her and how much the portion?
If she has no appetitie to eat, hand feed her and see.
if she is voracious eater of mealworm, she can't be very thin.
Maybe she is still young?

My gliders get fatter on crickets. They've been on mealworm treats for the past few days, haven't gained much weight.

I'm not sure whether my gliders put on weigh or not, but ironically, my mealworms are the ones who put on weight and have grown significantly after much gut loading.
They are now "fat" worms. haha

When he was a baby, i started to train him every night to lie still for belly massaging.
And now, he will put up a lazy pose and the white tummy every night.
