More and more of my relatives are having cancer esp breast & colon cancer these days..... so one will face many anxieties once they r diagnosed with cancer , that is the worst feeling in the world. But do not loose hope, theres always ways to fight cancer!

So right here i wan to share my experience in searching for a cancer hospital in KL for a cancer patient. Back then my mum was in critical stage alredi for her cancer.... she had breast cancer, colon cancer, neck cancer, etc.... shes a superwomen battling it all.... but the day came when its D day and i didnt want lose hope and still go on looking for a hospital for her.... but as all cancer fighter, once ur time is up..its up... u can't bargain. (this aint pasar mlm)

She's been gone for more than a year, so im sharing the below info to help those battling the same sickness so it will hopefully point u to the right direction for treatment n in choosing the right hospital for ur loved ones.

Back in the beginning, I've narrowed down to 3 hospitals:
1. SJMC/ Ramsey Sime Darby
2. Sunway Medical
3. IKN (institut kanser negara)

So went knocking at their doors and made appointment (u will need to select which doc u want to see and make the appointment), brought my mum there for the doc to do a consultation.

1. SJMC/ Ramsey Sime Darby
My Feedback: This is the worst of the lot, we met up with a female oncologists and she did not even have the patience to listen to my mum's past cancer history....keep cutting my mum off with her opinion and being negative and all.....as a PRIVATE hospital that is shouting on how good they r in managing cancer..... i was totally shock! Zero empathy and zero patience..... not recomended if u got a critical stage cancer patients.

2. Sunway Medical
My Feedback: This one is not bad, the female oncologists was very patience and listen to my mum's history.... and she so surprise that my mum is still alive till now......she even suggested us to go for new cancer treatment in IKN, she shared the cost if done in sunway will be too crazy and not worth the money....

3. IKN
My Feedback: As IKN is a govt hospital and my mum is a govt servant so we get easier admission lar.... meet up with a male oncologists and hes super encouraging and full of empathy and also provided a logical solution. He is also being upfront and honest in saying for ur mums situation we r not looking for a cure but to pro long her life if we can...... so pls set the expectations right yah... we will try our best ! Thats so encouraging!

So in conclusion, im just sharing my personal experience here......so no right or wrong.... but i would greatly recommend anyone with critical cancer to try IKN out as ur last option, nvr give up!

Sadly my mum did not made it to IKN for her treatment..... but i know she will forever be greatfull for the 2 docs that she met there that day~! U gave her peace of mind and reassurance.....

not every cancer can detect easily/early, better do full health check every year, not expensive

Some can be detected by performing self check e.g. testicular cancer & breast cancer.

Meanwhile, you can also opt for cancer marker during health screening.

For those with parents or siblings that had colon cancer, you're recommended to undergo colonoscopy 10 years earlier than the age they were diagnosed e.g. siblings diagnosed with colon cancer at 35 so you're recommended to undergo colonoscopy at 25 years old.

General health test is prob sufficient when ur young like 21 to 31 but after 30 i think a more targeted screening is better.... i.e; prostrate cancer test, colonscopy, tumour markers. Anyone can recommend where u all do ur targeted health screening?

My condolences. I also just discovered that I have a nodule in my thyroid which was totally unrelated to my colonscopy. Did a biopsy test and the doc said its non cancerous but suggested me to checkup every 6 months or remove it cause it has a 15%-25% chance of turning into cancer. Scary

early detection and at least yearly or even better 6 mthly screening should be the main concern here for you and family especially with strong family history of cancer

yeah sometimes money is not all the solution is. either private dont have the specialties, or the special utilities or its on full capacities which is already limited, while government setting have more specialist and have provided with procedures / drugs not available in private setting, not that im saying all government hospital/clinic have it but the one specialize in it will usually have it and cheaper, the only problem is with amount of patient that you may have to wait in line, so earlier detection and earlier referral to IKN may help. not necessarily IKN, but in government setting they'll refer to places that have the procedures available if they dont have it

It's really depends on doctor .
Saw few post in fb that complained Sunway Medical and Beacon Hospital .Meanwhile, there are also patient that are happy with SJMC .

Government Hospital always the best , but due to Covid situation now , all the treatment /surgery that not critical are postponed. It will affect cancer patient recovery journey .
