To protect yourself, keep whatever correspondence/whatsapp/email (better to use email) that he is well aware of the problem and he did not fulfill his obligations to avoid any issues later.

Make sure you keep those properly then. Later if got dispute... tons of issues later. He say got dispute... but you will be the one affected.
