QUOTE(clementcpteh @ Apr 15 2008, 12:35 AM) wetwetwater, I'm not so sure about the details. I actually got some sample from my aunty who feeds her GSDs this brand. I went thru the website, corn is one of the ingredient of this food. I don't quite like the idea of that. Now Malaysia dog food industry getting more brands. If you think it is suitable for your dog. Great! long term will know the result, the sample unable let you know, it only can show you the dog like it or not. What is special for this brand? Euro Premium , Who carry this brand at Malaysia? Have any Nutritionist support this brand? Maybe, I'll just stick with Acana. |

If your dog eats their own poo, to see it as quite a disgusting habit and wish to do something to stop it. If your dog is in the habit of eating faeces you will be less eager to cuddle close to your dog and certainly less likely to want doggie 'kisses'. Also their habit may restrict their freedom as you are more likely to keep your dog on lead at walkies time. From a health point of view you may worry what germs and diseases your dog could be picking up.
Another solution for a dog who eats their own poo is simply to clean it up as soon as they have toileted. You can hope to break the habit but it may take some time. Also, if you clean up poop quickly you risk the poop becoming an item of perceived value to your dog, which is the opposite of what you wish to achieve. Instead, call your dog in for a treat after they have toileted, close the door and with your dog inside go out afterwards to pick up the poo. more long term solution is to train your dog not to eat faeces. If you make a big fuss when your dog eats poop and try to stop your dog mid-scoff, your dog is likely to simply attempt to be quicker next time. Your dog may even think you are in competition and trying to reach the poop first because you desire to have it. The eating of poo has then become a significant event and could easily escalate into a habit. Distraction and reward is therefore preferable. Teaching the leave command can help. Start with something of low value before you graduate to using the leave command on something as rewarding as poo eating. So, having mentioned health concerns, it is important to point out that your dog will not suffer many ill effects as a result of eating poop, at least not in the way that humans would |

clement..no offence but that method is not always applicable right??
bcoz there are owners who arent at home 24/7 to monitor their furkids pooing all the time as they may have other obligations as well... i used to have this problem when my baby boy was little... but i used a pretty useful method recommended by the other forumers here... if your furkids are used to eating their poo... then the nex time u see them poo, and you're sure they are going to eat or play with their poo right after they finish their business, hold them back, then cover their poo 100% totally in white pepper... when your furkids go near their poo, they will sneeze ferociously or even tasted the white pepper....for me this is the method i've tried and ever since then my baby boy have never ever attempted to go near his poo ever again although this dont work for every furkid also...but this is another alternative |

Pepper is better than chili when it comes to training them not to eat poop.

using the pepper method is faster and far more effective than a NO... bcoz dogs i think have natural instinct to eat anything that smells like food to them...so i jus use the pepper method once oni then gao dim dy...mikey never ever tried eating his poo ever again |

It's not cruel coz it is not scaring them. I think someone mention he scares his dog using fire cracker so they can be quiet.... now that is just not right lah.
The pepper method works pretty well on most dogs. I do this after I bury a pet, my dogs won't dare touch the grave. Some dogs eat their poo out of habit, some eat coz they feel they lack of some crucial nutrient from their diet. Some dogs won't eat their own poo but eat other dog's or animal's poo. So to stop them, you must give them an unpleasant experience. Pepper is harmless, just make the dog sneeze only. |
