Added on September 9, 2007, 4:05 pmi guess Times doesn't even know what a proton is. I thought there are some reviews in Europe talking about our national car. Don't forget that we exported Proton to Europe as well but they renamed it. I saw a police car in UK using Proton Wira before.

Why Proton not in the list? Why those China car not in the list? Why KIA not in the list?
Because Proton do not exist in the entire world.
jeez, Proton, the magical word can turn people into dumbasses.
btw sarahho, a suggestion for you, since you look pretty worked up by this list thingy, why don't you write to the Editor of Time to voice your suggestion?

As the majority of cars in that list are mainly american cars, a few italians and british, dont forget that article is by Time magazine. Surprisingly i dont see any cars from Japanese/Korean or even a Malaysian. Dont forget if u a Top gear watcher, u do realised that American cars are crap.

Yes, it's very obvious why Proton isn't on the list.
Protons cars simply could not meet the US Safety Regulations. I'm not talking out of my ass, this is a fact. No Protons have been sold there since the Saga 2 decades ago I believe (which was before they raised their safety standards).
The pre-facelift BMW 7-series is one of those cars which is very good inside but ugly outside. I guess the Time people considered looks to be a major factor as well. Nevertheless they were honest enough to include many of their own national cars.
In my opinion the Ford Model T shouldn't have been in that list though, it was a major breakthrough! Same goes to the Chrysler Airflow.

Jaguar X-Type?????
"Multipla" is a time-honored name for Fiat. The company made an adorable microvan by that name in the '50s and '60s, based on the Fiat 600. The Multipla that appeared in 1998 was anything but adorable. With its strange high-beam lenses situated at the bottom of the A-pillars (base of the windshield), the Multipla looked like it had several sets of eyes, like an irradiated tadpole. It had this weird proboscis out front and a bulky, glass cabin in back, and the whole thing was situated on dwarfish wheels. I rented one of these in Europe and it worked beautifully, but it was just so tragic to look at. The Multipla (and the Aztek and the Consulier GTP) reminds us that cars cannot just work beautifully. They have to be beautiful. At least they can't look like this.
They judge based on looks ... which definitely isn't fair

Dude go Wiki Proton la ... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Proton also exports cars to Singapore and Australia, and now produces models in left-hand drive, for export to continental Europe. An entry into the US market was considered by Malcolm Bricklin following Hyundai's successful launch in the mid 1980s. However, exports to the US never materialized, as the cars required hundreds of changes to meet American safety standards in order to secure coverage from auto insurers and satisfy legislative requirements. Proton export models still do not comply to all environmental standards such as emission limits.
