i think as long as DNB charge telco, telco will charge their customers … if free means degradation of quality … dont think telco will provide 5g at a loss … in the end customer will suffer because of gov decision on DNB … heard my friend said Umobile now very bad service after 5G and their  5G is free upgrade … he is porting to Hotlink …

telco no need own/setup 5G infra, save some money also mah sweat.gif

got pros and cons

DNB 5G means all teco have same coverage? consumer win? no need decide which telco has better coverage?
but if DNB 5G down means all affect laugh.gif

Similar to if you buy a car or rent a car … you prefer buy or rent (if you can afford)? Same mindset to telco now … gov forcing telco to rent from DNB but then cannot charge customer extra for what they paid to rent …

Imagine if you work as Grab driver, you are not allowed to buy and use own car, can only rent car from Grab to offer service, at the same time gov force you to provide ride hailing service for free … when you retire you left with no money and no car … work pointlessly for entire life … gov pitch is you can start working without owning a car, just rent, good idea, right?

Similarly, end of the day, telco been paying billions but end up with no assets and no profit … assets are important to use as collateral to borrow money to finance their future operations … i think no shareholders will agree to such money losing business models, so dragging is best option now … the more 5G data their customer use, means the more they have to lose …

I think that is the situation now in Msia industry and why our 5G is not going anywhere …. and the reason why it failed else in the world …

As customer I still not keen to subscribe the more expensive plan knowing telco wont be doing well on 5G …

At my area, Yes is not consistent, sometimes even no signal

UMobile, Maxis/ Hotlink equally good, 5G phone > 500Mbps all the time, consistent with actual usage, in terms of download & video streaming

CelcomDigi not yet try

Since Maxis is giving 5G access with maxis plans, maxis should also consider to give 5G modem to non fiber subscribers as maxis family plan is tied up with 2 years contract and giving 4g modem to those whom doesn’t want the fiber or those with no maxis fiber is a downgrade to customers I feel.
