Can anyone in Penang recommend a tyre shop for me to go change my stock 14" rims to 15" rims?? My wive's Vios '07 14" stock rims are kinda unstable when she drives above 100km/h no thanks to the super light steering wheel too. So, I wanna change it to 15" rims and hopefully wider with thinner profile tyres for her. Hoping to get a second hand 15" stock G-spec Vios '07 rims though. Recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

I personally tried it yesterday. The 14" stock rims that comes with the E spec is seriously unstable. Driving above 100km/h really makes the car feel wobbly and prone to small turning gestures made to the steering. The stock tyres are 175/65 Dunlop GT3 and I guess it's not wide enough. That's why I am looking to change it. Any recommendations for a good tyre shop in Penang?

i feel vios steering is very light...
when i corner especially on high speed corner... i feel like floating...
if i add front strut bar... will it be useful?
for Ultra racing bars... they have only 2 points or got 4 points as well?

Same here. My '09 bought Vios E-Spec was for the wife and I am driving the '05 Vios G-Spec. My wife initially liked the super light steering, then complained when driving along highways too much. Now, she'd rather swap her '09 Vios for my '05 Vios. And it is now my turn to feel uncomfortable with the steering. I'm still contemplating between changing to bigger rims and wider tyres because I do not know whether will it give a drastic effect to the steering weight. Anybody has experience with this??

well changing to a wider tires yes... it will met you feel heavier steering...
i can feel if my '05 Vios and SEG fitted with PP2 195 or 185 tires...
195 a bit more roll coz our RIM is 5.5J only... but you get a bit more grip...
and also the steering feel a bit heavier....
why not try to change to 16" rim with 205 tire and see... tat will give you 20mm more contact each tire and it is 40mm for the front 2 tires...
it certainly will give you heavier steering but don expect it to be very heavy...
Honda have lighter steering... quite scary if you are not use to it...

16" tyres too pricey for me I guess. That's why I'm looking at 15" rims only. The current stock E spec tyres are only 175 but damn high profile of 65 la. I don't expect a very very drastic change of steering weight, Just hope it'll be slightly heavier compared to the current feel. Lurking in Penang to find 15" Lenso rims but it's so rare. Almost every tyre shop I visited told me they don't carry Lenso rims. Thanks for the info man.

aiyo...
you got it wrong bro... 65 not that high... 65 is the percentage of your width...
175 X 113.75 (Height) for the 175/65 tires...
185 X 111 (Height) for the 185/60 tires... a bit only... 3mm can you feel it???
haha... don mistakenly though it is a big different...

hmm... you need to if you change to 195/55 R15 with wider rim better...
the '05 Vios fitted with 185 and 195 tire i can feel the different of body roll during corner...
*
Now that is brand new info to me. Haha. Thanks for educating me on the profile percentage. My '05 Vios is fitted with 185 tyres only but it's super solid coz the steering wheel is the conventional hydraulic type which is way heavier compared to this '09 Vios.

@phat_newbie

sorry just now in hurry to go out for meeting...
look at the attached file for more info...  smile.gif

it seems that 195/55 R15 is a good fit... if not i think you have to look for 16" already... smile.gif

Wow,this is seriously a damn good reference. Thanks for this man. 195/55/R15 is definitely my way to go.

mine E spec bought on 07 n change to 195/55/R15 michelin PP2 after 1 month... b4 tat 14' rims feels floating n understeer when cornering but with 15', good handling n steering feels heavy a bit... my wife luv it coz conering feels better with more grips.. if u check with VIOS trd sportivo version they also use 195/55/R15

Thanks for sharing mate. At least now i know that changing my rims to 15" and wider tyres really improves the handling.

Hi ppl, anyone faced any weird smell emitting from the air con?? My half year old vios '08 emitting weird musty smell from the air con. This happened on the first occassion last weekend when I did not drive my car for 1 whole day and that whole day was raining. Then when I drove it out at night out for supper, that smell started to emit from the air con when switched on. This was last weekend. Complained this to toyota and they scheduled for a full check-up next week. Then after a few days of driving, the smell went away for some strange reasons.

Then today, again I did not drive my vios for 1 whole day and it was raining the whole day again. Now guess what, drove out for dinner just now, and the smell came back. Very strange phenomenon. Anyone experienced this before??

Can't be battery gua, the car is about 6 months old only. Anyway, bringing it in to Toyota for a full checkup tomorrow. Hopefully they can find the problem and fix it. It's super annoying, the smell sometimes comes, and sometimes it's just normal.

i had this problem after i sent my car for tinting. bad workmanship caused the soup solvent like chemical slips behind the dashboard. however, i usually will let the windows open when just turn on aircon. received some forward mail saying the 1st bunch of air when u turn on ur aircon is kinda poisonous. but the smell that i m experiencing nvr go away. though nvr try asking toyota to check. only thing i can guess for ur issue is the filter box behind the glove box. it can only happen if condensation happens inside the box.

on a 2nd note, i m quite pissed with the suspension/tyre noise after about a year driving this vios. it feels like my previous 20 year-old corolla. i wonder if this only happens to J or owners of E,G,S also experiencing the same issue.

another 2 problem i m having:
1. feels the front wheel vibrate when braking from about 80~100km/h. not brake as in sudden braking, but normal braking when u go down from slope.
2. some belt is starting to make noise when first start engine in the morning or in the evening.
hvnt go back to toyota coz the problem is intermittent.

Got my car back from toyota SC and they said they changed my cooling coil and also my air filter. They suspected something wrong with my cooling coil. But then I borrowed my car to my cousin brother coz his car met in an accident and is waiting for repairs. I asked him to watch out for this smell again and he said it's all good even up to today. He's been driving my car since last Friday already. Hopefully the problem has been resolved though.

As for your other problems, I never encountered them yet as my car is approaching 7 months old only and has only clocked about 12,000kms. My first gen vios year 05 is experiencing the loud belt sound in the morning during start-up but not my 2nd gen vios. Will always post new problems in this forum for sharing sake.
