They both use x86 architecture. AMD licenses from Intel, but they build their own. Current gen CPUs from both Intel and AMD play to different strengths depending on what kind of workloads you're asking it to do. But for general use and gaming, both are fine. Unless you're doing some very spesific research work where you require algorithms that only Intel can do.
