Hello,

Need some advice on this.

we stay in a high-rise condo, recently we constantly hear some wall knocking sound - as in like someone using a hammer to knock on the wall "dong dong dong..." with a perfect beat!
at 1st we thought is from above unit, but after have a chance to talk to the owner it seems is not coming from them (because when talking to them, I still can hear the sound from my unit, so try to exclude they are the root cause).

the knocking noise happen day and night, usually last like about a minutes, stop.....and perhaps later will come back again in next minutes or hours.

I looked up in google...try to search what can be the sound is, especially now EMCO time no renovation is allowed. The most I can found is this thing call water hammer in the piping system, or pressure hammer.

Anyone has experience this before? we are almost at the edge and need to find what is the source of the sound and have it resolved.

or sounds can travel - maybe from a construction site nearby?

Unlikely - because it really sound like hammer trying to demolish the wall when people doing renovation.
Asked below unit owner - he is not staying and not renting to any one either, is empty unit.
currently under EMCO, no construction works is allowed in the area.

I am living in a high rise and there are always funny noises. One time it was kids jumping up and down, running here and there. It turned out there was a family with young kids 3 floors above us. It sounded like they were right on top.

Anyway strange noises are not peculiar to Malaysian buildings, Singapore papers wrote a lot of that too. Water hammering is another. It was driving me crazy. There was one particular house that caused the noise. I could hear water flowing then followed by the noise. It is gone now.

Sorry I cannot help you solve your problem, but one thing you can consider, it is not some restless spirit, or your house is haunted. Just mechanical phenomena. But even if it is some hantu, and many people experienced it, it will go away. Just kidding. I am quite sure it's the stresses and strains in the structure, uneven water pressures.
Enjoy your new apartment.

Most likely water hammer sound, how far away is your unit from the M&E Room? Can also try to talking to your building maintenance?

ya, most suspected item is the piping.
I've talk to the Management Office and they are going to check any water piping issue in my tower. Hopefully they found the root cause and get it fix.

MO should have the building (block layout/floor layout) plans so they can ascertain where the pipe runs are and also based on the piping layout/M&E plan they should be able to advise whether it is logical to be water hammer or not.
