Hello everyone, may i know what's the fair price and job provided by interior design? This is the first time i want to renovate a home, anyone can share what's the service should provide by the interior design? I got quoted RM6.5k for a 7000 sqft SEMI-D. The house is about 2.5K sqft build up remaining is empty land.

Usually for ID + 3D with all the detailed drawings + M&E/RCP about RM4/sq ft build up. However this is always negotiated upon and depends on your scope.

I'm interested to know as well. How do these ID design your place? How do they know what's your style? or they design based on their preference?

Went through few renovations for my properties, but it's always direct to contractor. Interested to know what value could be added from interior designers and if the additional cost is worth it.

Hi, just sharing my experience on interior design searching and surveying done last year. (yes, last year and now renovation haven't even start yet due to abcdemco.......long queue..... sad.gif )

ok so er.... i guess there is no fix range of interior design fees... but i did found some lyner mentioned about rm0-10/square feet of build up to charge on u.

What u nid to ask ur designer are what is included in the price:

i) design of coz....
ii) space planning
iii) layout plan like m&e, lighting
iv) 3d visual (some charge per view, as to avoid unlimited amendments; some limited to few views, then extra view extra charges)
v) furniture material plan
vi) supervision of renovation progress include making sure all follow the time schedule agreed together and the project complete as their design shown.

Above are the 1 stop ID services which u can juz discuss and decide, the ID will do the rest.... (mayb lack sth, if any1 wanna add on can go ahead)...

Of coz, there r 2 types of 1 stop ID:
i) charge u designer fees
ii) designer fees exempted if u award them ur renovation work. (means they get their profit from there..... no free lunch ma~~~)

Then, there are oso ID who provide juz design. U nid to source ur contractor for every job required for ur renovation.

So, regarding what services SHOULD provided by ID?
I think this is a subjective question. It's all up to u who think whether it is worth the price u pay.
Some ppl may pay just 50k of designer fees for their renovation juz because tat ID can design what the client wants and love as well as helping the client to solve space planning and renovation problems, or even the ID can give the client WOW effect and yet practical design. (some may think it is a waste of money to pay tat much ... whistling.gif ) really depends on ur budget and what u wan.

In short,
1)list down ur budget,
2)list down ur renovation must do list (which nid to be done now, which can do later or next),
3) Choose to go with ID or not
If yes, find few ID (some lyner suggest 2~ 5), for quotation n mood board presentation. (mostly free), talk to them, c which click wif u the most.... know wat to give u when u speak out ur direction of renovation.
u can oso browse the ID previous project to hav an idea whether this ID's design match what u desire or not..... say u prefer muji style, however, the ID's most project are looking great in dark and luxurious style, then mayb u can skip this ID? unless u wanna give them a try.....
4) ID to do renovation work as well? Yes, talk to ID; No, get ur ID design work done and look for contractor with the design.
5) get ur renovation started! thumbsup.gif

3D means virtual walk through? yes the price is about that. also this price does it usually include supervision work after designing?

This pricing usually only for drawing works, project management will be different. Case-to-case basis but not all ID will have this option, also depends if ID are Design & Build. If they are, then they will be willing to lower their design/project management fees when you take up their renovation package.

It's easier for some owners as you just deal with 1 key person/company rather than a whole bunch of contractors. If someone f*cks up you just shoot 1 guy. They're responsible for getting things right for you.
