hi all, need some help.

just want to clarify whether maxis home fibre can't setup port fowarding for home use?

I was trying to setup port forward under "virtual server" in archer C5v, and found that the port is still closed from the port forward test website.

Meanwhile, i called the maxis support and they claimed that port foward can't be done for home user.

By default you will use a shared public IP. For port forwarding to work properly you will need you own public IP and have to request one from Maxis.

Call Maxis and request for public IP. Then also make sure you allow the port through Windows Firewall.

i cnt rmb how I did it last time but as far as I recall, I called in to Maxis on the 1st try, they said to me exactly what they replied you.

Then I asked around and the "trick" word is that you need to open port forwarding for your "cctv" or your own home server app/service to go thru. They will then change your IP from dynamic to static (but then, not sure why my IP is still dynamic) for free. No charges. Never mention you are doing this for business or anything related to money.

After awhile, I am able to do port forwarding already. So, try calling them again and using certain words that they will allow you to do port forwarding by changing your IP to a static one.

Hi TS, just request for public IP from Maxis, tell them you need to host Server/CCTV, cant do it without.

Thanks you guys for advice. Indeed, by asking help on CCTV would resolved their understanding at their end. Probably my technical conversation of "port forward" has misled them.

The support has changed it as public IP for my account, and proceed at my end. I guess i probably need to change the PPP login as well.

Thanks.

No, you're still on Dynamic

What changed is you moved from Private IP to Public IP

Static IP is usually only for business use and is pretty expensive.

But yeah, as others have said, ask for Public IP and they'll do it.
Note, if your internet no longer works, add a 1 to the back of the PPPoE password. A lot of technicians forget that and your internet stops working.

Not all port can be forwarded. Same with unifi too. Unless it standard port. What port number you are trying to forward?

Good to know that it's public IP and not static. Thanks for the clarification!
