Can DM me the coupon for lenovo laptops from RM2.5K-RM3.5K.

Plan to buy during 9.9

If the latest ideapad gaming 3 comes with the improved cooling like this one, it will be worth to consider: https://youtu.be/koCAQDcyapk

You mean with RTX3060?
*
No no. The previous ideapad gaming comes with shared cpu & gpu cooling.. but in the video, seems like lenovo has improved the cooling by implementing dedicated fans and better exhaust vents. This will provide better thermal efficiency.

Hi sifuss. I am looking for a new laptop for running data (ETL) and light gaming. I have shortlisted a few models. Which model would be better choice? Any model has heating issue?

1) Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57-536D (RM3800+)
i5-11400H, 8GB, 512GB SSD, RTX3050

2) Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 82K200AXMJ (RM3900+)
R5 5600H, 8GB, 512GB SSD, RTX3050

3) Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15IHU6 82K10150MJ (RM3600+)
i5-11300H, 8GB, 512GB SSD, GTX1650

4) Dell G15 5515 (RM3800+)
Ryzen 5 5600H, 8GB, 512GB SSD, RTX 3050
*
Skip no. 3 as it only has 4 cores.

Whichever laptop you choose, add another matching RAM to make it run 2x8 dual channel. ETL will benefit with good cpu+ram+ssd.

Out of the four you listed, the G15 has the highest TGP at 95w, so slight advantage compared to the others when it comes into gaming.

Which one would you guys recommend and could somebody explain the differences between the screen for both?

The first one is a business/normal laptop and second one is gaming. Power-wise, 2nd one is better lol (and likely noisier due to the fan).

1st laptop has higher resolution but 90hz refresh rate. 2nd one is 1080p but with 165Hz refresh rate.

So if it's you, which one would you get?

Neither.. the second one is better (better cpu, gpu & screen) but the battery capacity is small. Looks like an ideapad gaming 3.

Asking for a friend

1. Budget : ~RM3700 maximum
2. Usage  : game development
3. Requirements : I think as long as it has a GTX class card.

Friend was looking at g-series-15-5515 laptop from Dell.
*
It's a good value considering it comes with RTX3050. Not much laptop like this under rm4k.

Looking for laptop mainly for work purposes (data analysis, ETL, python), light gaming, watch youtube, will use for long hours (hope the battery is durable)
Budget - 4k
Preference: 15.6 inches screen, i7, 16GB ram, great battery, great cooling system (no noise), no laptop freeze lol

Waiting Duration: 3 months
*
sounds like you need a laptop with u-series CPU and low TGP GPU. something like acer swift x. but definitely you cannot get a noiseless fan if you want a light gaming laptop.
and definitely not i7 with rm4k.

Sorry I changed my laptop requirements. You can refer to your above post, post #1222😁 what would u recommend?
*
acer swift 3 AMD
swift x still applicable for your use.
(both have soldered ram if I'm not wrong)

dell Inspiron 14 ryzen

maybe a lenovo but i am not familiar with it.. though Thinkpad series are generally quite well-built but comes with soldered ram.

Guys wanna ask if the 11th gen intel still relevant if 12th gen out? got huge diff if my laptop is owes connected to power? thinking of upgrading my lenovo y520 to something like legion 5 with 3070.
*
yes 12th gen is superior.. however the cost may negate its benefit as 12th gen laptops price tend to be on the higher side. this is also due to some 11th gen laptops are on a slight discount (being phased out and stock is scarce). if budget is not a concern, by all means, get the 12th gen.

i see lenovo legion 5 pro still no 12th gen one. but overpriced alienware those almost 10k for 3070 setup.. even dell g15 also need 8k dang. my budget max also 7+ more abit..
*
yeah.. the dell g15 with 3070ti is 7299 to 7999 depending on screen option. i will expect the gen7 legion 5 will be priced within this range as well. even the 12th gen ideapad gaming 3 is expected to be > 4k and nearly 5k. even msi vector 12th gen with rtx3060 is > rm7k

legion 5 2022:

Lol tis maybe release mid 2022 i guess. Hopefully they retain the same screen which got good review. Wanna ask is current gen lenovo noisy? Cos my old y520 quite noisy when load.. altho some might say if background environment not silent is acceptable. If this 3070ti specs so exp maybe i might go SFF route, just lose out on the portability side tho. Reason prefer intel cpu is got thunderbolt4, so in future wan use the enclosure to upgrade gpu is an option.
*
sorry my man but i dont own a legion 5 (i only have g15 and some other dell, acer & ideapad laptops). but based on the reviews, legion 5 is slightly louder than g15. that's a trade-off as it needs to be loud and fast - legion has one of the most simple and effective cooling solution.

Ah i see, the new g15 wont win beauty race but it looks like a value buy desktop replacement to me at 7299, if the noise arent too bad i think may consider. Cos my laptop also 2years at position no move already lol. Seeing that laptop 3070ti is abit faster than desktop 3070, i am ok with it since a built desktop SFF almost cost the same, probably just minus the fan noise when load.
*
take note, the g15 2022 model comes with only 1 ssd slot. this is a big turnoff if you plan to expand your storage.

Hi Sifus,

PROCESSOR: AMD Ryzen R7 5800H Processor
512GB  SSD
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

Is this configuration good enough? Is there a major differece between 3060 and 3050? How about Intel vs AMD processor?
*
Pick 3060 if your budget allows. Big diff compared to 3050.

for cpu, you cant go wrong with either Ryzen or Intel 11th gen. both are fine.

Looking for the following recommendations:

Budget: preferably less than 5k, but 6k is also doable
CPU: Alder Lake, or any octa-core Ryzen 5000 (not Lucienne) or Tiger Lake. Need these for work purposes.
GPU: Not important but a 3060/3050 is a bonus.
Screen: True 100% sRGB colours.
Other requirements: preferably one with dual SODIMM and at least 1 M2 slots for memory/SSD upgrades down the road. Below 2kg.
Usage: Work with some light gaming perhaps
Time: before Raya ideally.
*
hard to find a sub 2kg laptop with 2 ram slots and additional SSD slot. the good ones will weight 2.5kg.

for < 2kg, you might like:
Asus Zephyrus G15 around rm6k (rtx3050ti model)
1 soldered ram with 1 additional slot
2 ssd slots

Having SODIMM is secondary to my needs compared to a decent CPU and screen. If no SODIMM, what are the best options?
*
Alternatively the G14 (smaller screen):
Zephyrus G14 R7

Ryzen 7 5800HS
RTX3050
8GB SODIMM onboard + additional SODIMM slot for upgrade
144Hz 100% sRGB screen

Most compact laptop may come with soldered ram + additional slot.

If you want 2 x ram slots, usually the laptop will be bigger (hence heavier > 2.5kg).

All laptops use SODIMM ram.

if no SODIMM, means no ram brows.gif

Haha I keep thinking of laptop RAM slots as SODIMM.

I was also looking at the Vivobook Pro 14. Seems solid overall too, from a non-gaming perspective, identical specs (albeit with 3050 max-q) + high res OLED at a lower price. Would that be a better buy overall?
*
I think it is vivobook 15? The one with 5600h and max-q rtx3050. I think it should be fine if gaming is not your priority.
