I still don't know how they select for JPA scholarship to date...


during my time... I remember my school mate... got 11A1 (took chinese language)... school basketball captain and school debate team member ...got rejected for JPA scholarship...

but surprisingly... another mate of mine got 5A2 3A1 2B3 with no co-curriculum (did not join any co-curriculum but got pity points from teachers to sign off as regular member of random clubs like me ).... got JPA scholarship to Germany study engineering...

is it selected on a random basis??? is it like toto 4D whereby they throw all the people name who met the minimum SPM requirement and then draw from the lot...?? most likely for the sake of diversity instead of pure merit base??

Apart from excellent results, you will also have to go through a panel of interviewers, and ace in the interview. That interview carry quite substantial weight.
Other criteria including your family background (income), parents job, siblings income, etc, also play a role.

is it JPA reserve for rich people?? cause that guy who got it is quite well to do... father datuk... but the other 11A1 is only from middle class family...

maybe interview better kot...

but surprising though.. 1 is debate team... the other oral/lisan exam also read from paper.... he also told me he did not know what was going on during the interview... he is as shocked as the 2 of us when he receive the offer...

JPA stopped giving general overseas scholarships to non-bumi since 2012 (i think).

Now the only general post-SPM overseas scholarships are
1. MARA (bumi)
2. JPA-MARA (bumi)

The only current real overseas scholarship JPA gives to non-bumi is the specific engineering Korea, Japan, Germany, France scholarship- which at the end of the day, most that get it is also bumi. And most top-of-the-top Malaysians wont want to go there anyways because they want to go Oxbridge or Ivy League...

this one. if TS your friend applied to German, Korea, Japan, France, and if nons, you need straight A's and over achiever abit. then confirm get.
those USA one very hard to get for nons. useless you're super achiever. and yes, i met those ppl before. FYI, uncle roger is under JPA scholarship as well. he went to US.
some may ask if family background plays a role, i think yes. usually i see those go USA one, their background comes from M20 at least. never i see B20 in their group. maybe scared they cant pay the repayment if they break the contract i guess.

true story here:

there was this group interview

In that group, there were some well-rounded non-bumi students . Meaning they scored straight As, held important positions in club/societies, and very outspoken.

In that same group, there's only one bumi student. Straight A student as well but didn't hold important positions in clubs/societies, and not outspoken at all.

Every time and whenever the interviewer asked questions, the well-rounded students will answer.

So, guess who within that group got the JPA scholarship? I don't need to say. Of course, the well-rounded students were disappointed.
