yup it is expensive... thats why you got to pay attention. I had to sound the TS so he dont make the same mistake(or in my case, I did try to order things that went up to 20 lbs and I paid close to 400 rm for shipping, and I fully declare the value and also got charged some import duty... but it is fully handled by the courier(that time I think is UPS, they use a couple of different local partners when the ship out from Hong Kong.
Also to TS: you basically need to declare the package as you buy it, so no such thing as black box service, you need to let them know what item you bought and it is classified under "home and living" or
"" computers " or "books" or "clothes" " Toys" (I bought lego before...not really worth it, some local lazada sells them for cheaper after I received the item    )

I have never bought things with value above USD 300 though. I did check out a couple of lenovo legion notebooks that cost usd1000+++ but never pull the trigger.

Oh and the weight is not the weight of the item... it is the weight of item, plus its original packaging, accessories, plus packing material and the external box.... so something that weighs 1 lb will arrive in Hongkong as 1.8lbs.

(I bought some amazon echo dots) you definitely want to factor that in.

ComGateway is pretty reliable. I have used it dozens of time.

Actually, the shipping company they use will pay for the import tax and smoothly bring your package out from custom. You pay them then they deliver.

ComGateway uses DHL.

You don't have to do anything super specific.

When your items arrive at the ComGateway warehouse, you have to do simple declaration like describing what the product is briefly and it's actual US price.

They do have to open it to inspect.

If your item is dangerous, battery pack, flammable substance, they provide a safe packaging for extra charge. (No weapons and all that of course)

For import to Malaysia, anything above RM 500 will be charged extra import tax. They count the delivery cost together.

So if your item is RM 300 and the delivery cost is RM 100, it falls within the RM 500 range and no extra charge.

If however you exceeded that cost, when clearing custom, DHL will pay the extra tax charges for you, then they will charge you before delivering.

I usually try not to exceed this limit and only buy stuff hard to find in Malaysia.

You can open an account with ComGateway and ask questions with their support, they are pretty responsive. Opening account does not cost any money.

You get 30 days to keep your items at their warehouse. After that they charge you some fee per day.
