Well the straightforward answer is yes, degree+ACCA is better than only ACCA in a general sense. Yet you need to figure out your own path...don't follow those that are blindly going into audit. People go into audit because of a variety of reasons, but most of all its because of herd mentality. They don't know why its good, but everyone says its good so it must be good.

Graduate programmes are good for you to get a feel of different functions in a company, but before that you'll need to figure out which industry that you'd like to join.

Thank you for replying. It's just that I feel like I'm doing something 'wrong' and perhaps wasting my ACCA certification to a certain extent if I don't follow the traditional 'Audit in Big 4 firm' path that ACCA grads choose to do. After all, there must be a good reason that so many people are choosing to do so right?

If you don't mind, could you elaborate on what further options you think degree + ACCA would provide me over ACCA only? I'm under the impression that employees would disregard my degree because the subject matter taught in ACCA and my Accounting and Finance degree pretty much overlap, hence employers would really only look at my ACCA completion because ACCA is perceived to be more impressive.

Tbh you didn't even need the ACCA in my opinion... accounts and finance is good enough. ACCA is gearing you towards audit, which is currently not the best profession to be in. Nonetheless, given that you're almost there with your ACCA, just go ahead and finish it, and then with the thing try to see if it adds further firepower to you in joining whichever firms that you choose.

Degrees are more broad-based, so they open wider paths for you; ACCA in the local scene is more audit-focused. Therefore, degrees may land you into an assortment of fields; whereas ACCA cannot. ACCA may give you a more pointed tip towards certain jobs and those jobs only, and are therefore more limiting in nature. Don't be so hung-up over what gives you an edge or not, just finish your papers and give it a long hard think on what you wanna do instead. thumbsup.gif
