You should read the Frequently Asked Questions for DS first before opening up a topic. It should answer most of your queries.

If you can point me to that section on above question, appreciate it.

I am not sure if i covered those parts but to answer your questoin

It has the capability of playing video and music via the usage of Play-Yan or a homebrew program called Moonshell.

The NDSL does not utilize Mini SD or Micro SD.

More purchase details for Play-Yan can be found HERE

and

Simply put, the DS on it's own(immediate out of the box) is just a hardware used to run games. It does not come in with built-in media support like the PSP.. (the ability to play .mp3's and videos) And it was made specifically to run only games.. But a few official softwares, like the Play-Yan grants you the ability to watch and listen to media.

So remember, out of the box, the DS does nothing but run software through cartridges, and also through download-play(local wireless).

Full specifications of the DS can be read up here:

The NDSL device it self doesn't utilize MicroSD/Mini SD but the third party flashkit devices does.

I don't know why, a lot of veterans here tend to avoid mentioning the flashkit devices for NDSL(such as the R4). I believe they can be perfectly legal if they are only used for media and homebrews.

Just a few more homebrew features I would like to add into the list eone has above.

COLORS - very nice little painting software, a good pass time if you like drawing.
ComicBookDS - great comic book/images viewer.
NewDictS - this turns your NDS into digital dictionary, it can even have voice reading provided you have space for the voice data.
DSNotes - nice little software for jotting down small notes.

Question though: if you want to do things other than game like video and music, why aren't you buying a psp?

Fun is a matter of opinion.

Seriously though, sounds like you want a portable media center. Not only does the psp do all that, it also has a built in web browser. All the various DS "utilities" are expensive(play-yan, opera browser), though, of course, if you plan to use R4 and never purchase any DS software, this is a rather moot point.

Well the NDS for the most part is purely for innovative gaming experience. If you are using it for serious media viewing then I feel sorry for you man laugh.gif . There are plenty of other devices that are much better for this including the PSP of course. Heck why not get yourself an iPod, ZEN, Zune, etc. for that matter.

Simply because the two systems have almost completely different games library.
Also, reread his post, he is buying it for his "little girl" which in this case, NDSL suits the most.
If he only wants a portable media center, there is no reason for him to even get a handheld console at all.

One question, your little girl like cute VERY CUTE graphic and very CUTE game? Then, DS is it. If your little girl like to play extreme game with Godly graphic PSP is it. And, i don't think kids like to listen song and watch movies at a young age. They will only play game once they addicted to it.
