I need to connect my tvbox from unifi router, currently i'm subscribed unifi 100mb package, and i confuse which cat of Lan cable i should get? there is cat6, cat7 and 8 around.

Cat 6 has about 1gbps speed, cat 7 has 10Gps and Cat 8 has 40Gps , since My unifi just 100mb, Cat 6 and Cat 8 has no difference in my case right? Shall i just pick Cat6 cable ?

Any recommended LAN cable brand i shall go for ?

cat5e or cat6 enough good for current unifi package.

General rule of thumb, cat 5e enough for household use.

Just get cat 5e. Probably already have when you get together with your router or modem

it needs to be connect for 30m length, cat 6 will do ?

I got 30m cat7 many months back. Even though you don't need the speed, in theory if u buy the right stuff the cat7 is more shielded from interference. I bought from UGreen.

Your unifi tv box is unifi plus box (Black) or old unifi tv box (White)?

If plus box or any android box, it can be connected thru Wifi for the Unifi TV apps..

Just wondering when do we need cat 8 cable for ? mainly for server room ?

CAT7 is used to ensure consistent 10G speed between the switch and the server.

Used to use CAT7 for long distance but switched to fiber few years back when they got cheaper and better.

Hi guys, I am moving to a new house and is deciding if I should network the 2 floors with CAT 6, 6a, 7 or 8 with an effort to future proof the setup.

I only need 20 meters and CAT8 is not too expensive based on this (https://s.lazada.com.my/s.dGomE).

But I will be using my Deco M9 Plus for a while so wanted to check if CAT8 cables can be used for the time being.

Would like to check if CAT 8 is backward compatible.

It is backward compatible, but i suggest fibre optic is better..haha (This really future proof at least for 5-10 years.)

Sounds like a good idea. I intend to just link the fibre optics between GF and 1F at the centre of the house and plant the access points at both ends.

Any idea what equipment do I need? Should just be the fibre optics cable and a pair of converter, right?

Ya,i think so,but since you are going to put the cable why don't put Ethernet and Fiber optic at the same time.
Then it should be work for at least 8-10 years usage. (Future item cant know)

Why not? Use fast connectors, tool kit cost below 200rmb 5 years ago from Taobao. Now should be cheaper.

Cable cant bend too much if can bend alot can slip the cable under the door to room.
