Yeah, hopefully there's a kit with less hassle. Just install the software, plug iPod and wait for the process to end.
Current jailbreak processes still suck. davidmak, you jailbreak yours already?
Yes, I did. I used Basher's fix at first but I felt the summerboard installations (even after manual install) were a little spotty on the UI performance. It jerked a little when you switched from menu to menu. Then I get intermittent crash on both summerboard and some applications even with the proper procedures followed.
So I tried touchFree 0.6 which did the trick. Now like everyone else I have standard iPhone applications, eBooks, PDF viewer, ApolloIM, etc. You should seriously try it. I know if you're new to it, it'll kinda put you back a bit. But hey, most of the of screw ups can be easily restored. There are currently no way to brick it. Well statistically speaking.

Thanks, davidmak. Used touchfree 0.6 which was what started the whole scary experience and from which the iPod touch was almost unable to recover. Too scary. I did have everything necessary installled, and the other processes shut down. Not sure what went wrong, but am a bit weary of trying again.
Added on October 21, 2007, 6:06 pmThe mac method with iJailbreak looks a little more straightforward. Trying it now.
Added on October 21, 2007, 6:33 pmMuch better. Nice and easy with iJailbreak on the Mac. If I'm not mistaken, there's an app somewhere in installer which can be used to enable Touch users to add/edit calendar events. Anyone remember the name, and the section of installer that it can be located in?
I kinda had encountered that problem too. It happen when touchFree or Basher's fix were not responding because it reported to be waiting for my device even though its already been connected. When you quit it, you'll get a 300MB free space which you cannot recover unless you restore.
That problem is due to the Apple Mobile Device driver installed in the device manager (for Windows). I don't know if thats a bug or something. But I had to disconnect my iPod Touch, uninstall the driver, and then reconnect the iPod Touch to let Windows re-detect and re-install the driver. Then run the program with the necessary iPod services disabled. That should do the trick.
If you're running on Vista, try XP. Also kill your anti-spyware and anti-virus applications and disable your firewall if any.
Hope this helps.
