Sifu sifu sekalian

I am going to move to landed soon..Im worried about the security as have been staying in apartments all these while..

The landed place is not a gated and guarded area (old house)..so Im thinking of ways to safe guard me and my family against mishaps.

Was wondering should I change the grills of the house, if yes any that can deter from cutting? Auto gate..any suggestion for cheapo autogate 🤣

Appreciate input sifu sekalian 🙏 sekian terima kasih

If you have existing, just use them.

Auto gate is a good feature. Camera and lighting is also very good deterrent.

Alarm system of course must have.

Also board up or plank up the roof joists (so as to prevent people squeezing thru; most likely existing roof pillars are vertical so u just add horizontal 2x4 balau planks all over like a fence) so people cannot climb in to your attic airspace from other houses.

Paradox

For corner, sd and detached, include photo beam.

If you are changing new roof truss & tiles, then do. Not sure it can be done for metal truss.

Disturbing something good can lead to future leaking.

Over security is also not good as a determined burglar will break everything. You not only lose valuables but have to repair or replace those damaged.

All my cupboard drawers are not locked. I let them take whatever if he gain entry.

If want anti-cut there is security mesh available.
Here's an article on why it is better than grill. (am not mesh salesman or against grill, just sharing)
https://window-elements.com/the-dangers-of-...-better-choice/

If sticking with grill, allow a 2nd exit gate for emergency, ensure key and WD40 ready at all times.

Standard terrace or semi D house have party wall up to the roof, so burglar shouldn't be able to break in neighbour's roof and crawl over to break into your unit. But such incidence is not unheard of... even murder by intruder climbing from neighbour's house...perhaps the poor owner bought a non compliant house. Anyway not all linked houses you can see the fire rated party wall above the roof, as some were designed with T-beam terminating below the roof. Can check the party wall thru ceiling access to water tank usually at the Bathroom.

Regarding roof tiles security breach, can add any barrier of board, grille or mesh if not replace roof tiles with metal roofing.

Other consideration - electric fence especially detached house.

CCTV and alarm system is more useful on practical level. Grille is just there to give the owner a sense of security. End of the day you probably use a cheap padlock for your grille, which probably take about 5 sec to cut open if burglar bother to bring decent tools. Oh ya, my mother felt more secure with grille with 2 cheap pad lock. Only thing it does is to waste my time when going in and out.
