My uncle's gas lawn mower has finally got a leak. Sent to repair. However, he says that after using it for more than 20 years, he can fill tremor in hands. He is about 74 btw. The gas lawnmower need to sling behind his back, so the vibration can feel at his body. Thinking of getting him electric one. But not sure if worth it or not since the power cord hassle. Not sure he will still keep using the gas one. Any thoughts on gas vs electric mower?

Electric one is just for small yard and occasional use

usage for house yard and outside house sidewalk. Yard is about 3m wide by 5m on front and side

Advise your uncle to pay someone younger to cut. There are side effects esp to older people relating to their arms.

I owned a Hursqvarna petrol trimmer and reducing diy. If it give way one day, would just keep it as a museum piece.

Normarlly after using for 1 hour plus, my right arm will have numbness and vibration feeling for 2 to 3 hours. Cant hold a cup firmly.

Not sure about lawn mower vibration effects on two arms as never experience.

Good to know. He cuts around 2 hours/month. Not professional grass cutter. He has 6-pack muscle and more fit than I am BTW

Consider push type?

the cordless battery ones are pretty nice. good for small yard (around 20 minute use before battery run out)

instant start and stop at a finger trigger

and adjustable handle position , angle, length.

also no petrol fumes and less noisy

Uneven ground and some areas too small to push. Also, next to pot plants, will not get it.

Vibration?

Not much vibration.
My experience is with the worx gt. String trimmer.

Black and decker push trimmer should be ok.
It is quite light weight and he just needs to push it around like a vacuum cleaner. Can detached the trimmer when needed. You can buy spare string and sendiri wind the string after the string finished.

Just buy another 10-15 meter power extension and he can cut entire house.

Dont buy battery type as it might too heavy if use as trimmer.
Dont buy roller cutter because those wont roll if the lawn is not level and too long.

We Are using Black & Decker Cordless Trimmer; Corner lot but our garden size is now much smaller after renovation. Roughly 300 to 400 sqft of grass patch.

Using the Black & Decker Cordless Trimmer with single battery can get the work done with balance 30% juice left (using eco mode).

A 2nd battery can extend the work time and its much easier to use without the hassle of plugging & unplugging etc.

Downside, its top heavy because of the battery but if using the wheel attachment, I guess it should alleviate that problem.

3m x 5m can easily clear with hand

I only saw once in YouTube they're modified gas push with electric motor control over RC remote control hahaha

another way. harsh but no choice.. is to cement the place.

What brand/model have you got?

Corded or cordless? Which one is better. The gas one is sling. If battery to heavy, then it may deter him. The battery is convenient.


Never seen this type before. I see a problem for non flat areas

The hand held push type can move up down left right similar to sling type.

u mean grass trimmer? electric grass trimmer is only suitable for small brush. once ure against thick brush eg rumput kuda, ull need extra oomph that can only be get from gas powered grass trimmer.

so it depends on ur usage

3m x 5m lawn is the size of a small room only.. a battery operated 18V cordless Bosch, Worx, or Makita trimmer will be light and easy to operate. And if you need other 18V tool (drill driver/rotary hammer) from same brand, since already got the battery no need to worry about cord anymore.. cordless convenience

Plus NO risk of cutting thru the electric cable (ya its usually bright orange or red) but considering its pioneer generation people the lesser risk the better.

Should be fine for the area sizing..

Most famous power tool makers will have a cordless grass trimmer.
