QUOTE(victorian @ Jun 14 2021, 08:01 PM) Nope, I had a terrible experience with a car I bought brand new. And the worst is when want to sell after 6 years, the 2nd hand dealer offered only RM1k. Car was still in good condition overall. Now I take into account resale value quite seriously. |

QUOTE(bigmac999 @ Jun 14 2021, 09:50 PM) This is true. Once got problem send to workshop kena pancung kawkaw. One time bill 7k....but realise buy second hand coz cheap..end up maintenance bill slowly creeping up and with 9 year loan taken ...still got 7 year loan....it's too late ..sell also no use...keep also no use...stuck in a epic failed decision making. So it's best just to just get new...if you want to get reliable car....just look at what grab drivers are driving. That's reliable |

QUOTE(Mr Mercedes @ Jun 14 2021, 08:33 PM) Perodua yes. My x70 fan just koyak yesterdayProton, depends on the model. Iswara, Satria and Wira are pretty bullet proof. Persona and iriz is pretty ok too. A lot of complaints on FB about X50 and X70 spare parts availability, the CFE based models seem to be problematic too. But the worst are the french engineered Tiara and Savvy. |

QUOTE(Mr Mercedes @ Jun 14 2021, 07:58 PM) https://www.dsf.my/2021/06/car-ownership-ca...e-you-bankrupt/ Yup!TLDR: 1. Avoid exotics if you’re buying a first car. You may be tempted to skip the locally-made Peroduas and Toyotas for something a little more left field. This might not be the best idea. When a vehicle is popular, you can be sure halfcuts will be aplenty and spare parts will not be a major headache. More mechanics will have solutions to common problems, so you’ll be able to shop around for a solution that saves money or time or both. 2.Find out what the general consensus is for a vehicle you’re eyeing. Don’t just go by the brand’s reputation, get model-specific advice from owners and experienced mechanics before making a decision. 3.Don’t get taken in by warranties and guarantees that the salesperson makes there. Should things go wrong for you, that salesperson may not be able to honour his promises even if he’s well-intentioned. 4. Take into account resale value when deciding on a car. It’s a decent indication of how well a car ages overtime when the resale value of the last model is still high. 5.Stick to a budget and take into account interest, insurance costs, maintenance and fuel costs before making a decision. 6. Be wary of impressive equipment. Fancy LED and Laser headlights, large rims with large tyres, head units that can’t be user upgraded, these are all signs that sometime in the future, you’ll have to spend a bit more than you might think on replacement parts. W213 E300 hybrid battery replacement cost=Rm120k A6 Hybrid=RM108k If a used bmw costs as much as a god car go with the Vios. Ktards your car maintainance how? What's the most problematic and expensive car you have owned before? |

QUOTE(boonwuilow @ Jun 14 2021, 08:15 PM) Own a Ford focus tdci, is a Ford with parts price similar to BMW. They say Ford car are problematic, they say the DCT gearbox will fail. And yet I already put close to 250k km on it without a single break down, no issue with the DCT gearbox, no issue with the engine, no issue with electronics. However emission regulation device like EGR do give me issue, nothing better than deleting it. That engine is bullet proof engine. Been used in cars since 2005 with pug hdi. The gearbox should last another 100k kmFord is pretty good car. In UK it's everywhere like our kancil. But parts is on the higher end |

QUOTE(moonsatelite @ Jun 14 2021, 08:10 PM) why can't you? hold 2nd or 3rd gear and stick to the most left lane to not be a road hog, one can maintain 40 KM/h, unless you're rushing to reach the destination me last time long long time ago, my first car kancil 660 manual basic spec naik genting.Edit: I climbed a steep road about around 12% on a Axia (E) Manual, don't care who/what behind me thinks, just maintain around 30-40KM/h, 2nd Gear and engine RPM 2500-2700 at the last hill, need first gear naik machiem kura2. and the handbrake seriously useless at that kind of steep. didn't even dare to use handbrake. just play with clutch. if terpaksa brake/handbrake, then damn lor sweating. handbrake also car going down, and need to force fast2 gear 1 jln. As long as the car can go from point A to point B and don't breakdown, can already.
Doesn't matter what fancy car you drive, if halfway breakdown need to call tow truck, who needs that? |

The gearbox should last another 100k km The parts is cheap in UK, import the parts all the way to here become way higher. They say the clutch dampening spring will break before 200k km. But mine already more than 245k km and counting. Dunno if it is just pure luck or i m using the correct high quality oil with regular oil and filter change. Ford is pretty good car. In UK it's everywhere like our kancil. But parts is on the higher end yeah... Fiesta over there is like myvi, focus is like their civic and mondeo is like their accord or camry. Too bad the mondeo already stopped production. |
