hmn,
i think that rather personal.. everyone has different preference. I would say ikea have some very appealing design with some at affortable pricing. Often i do find the quality would be soso. Well, i think it is ok to get some from ikea. i would not like the whole house to be ikea stuff.. will be too common since many people buy from ikea now. |

Quality is crap.
Design is quite nice. I hope there will be a China company that copies the design and sell it here Maybe Ekea .... |

Their margin is very high.
For the same set that cost RM 1000 here, you can get at RMB 1000 in china ikea. |

Not too keen on Ikea furniture I only go there for their curry puff glassware and kitchen stuff.
Honestly from my usage experience Ikea quality is so so only IMHO I've got several pieces of furniture from Ikea and none really lasted the test of time. My Ikea shelves some are broken, stool is broken and dun even bother to take their furniture apart when moving house. Once you do the screws will be loose the next time you put it back together again. I also really love buying stuff and get the chance to bargain... that will never happen in Ikea |

Honestly I don't have a specific shop that I can recommend...
I'll shop around for furniture from several shops and evaluate my purchase based on the quality of the piece, the design, size and price... You could try Grandteak but the type of furniture might not be to your preference. Or you can try reading here:- Malaysia Home Appliances & Furniture Forum http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=429821&hl= or Any nice website?, To look at interior designs? http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=448543&hl= Have you considered Macy's their furniture is affordable during sales but I haven't bought anything from them? Majority of Macy's furniture design clash with my taste I don't fancy the country/cottage looks. Not related to furniture but if you want cheap lighting fixtures the cheapest I've found so far in Puchong is TopTen lighting near Tesco Puchong. QUOTE(ejleemy @ Sep 5 2007, 06:47 PM) Their margin is very high. That's about RM500+.For the same set that cost RM 1000 here, you can get at RMB 1000 in china ikea. But take into account that the item might be manufactured in China itself. No need transportation, no need storage. Also, the operation cost of a store is also cheaper in China. |

Ya their labour cost is much lower.
Anyway.....ikea stuffz memang made in china, most of the stuffz nowdays are made in china. And knowing ikea, they opt for the lowest quality goods so that they can have a higher profit margin besides profiting from the tear n wear of the products also. people keep coming back to buy. 1000rmb is only around rm470, so its really cheap. U can opt to fly to ikea china n buy all your household stuffs there, and transport back the goods. 1cubic metre only around Rm400, by shipment. If u spend here Rm10000, u only need to spend around rm4700+400shipment+2000your trip there......total also cheaper than u buy here. Btw...ikea's price havent include assembly fees of 5% of the product price + rm65 for delivery charges yet. I think its quite deceiving.....all in all, its not cheap to buy in ikea in my opinion. Many of my frens also complaint of spoilt goods in less than a year of using them. Maybe to be on the safe side, buy only those from ikea which gurantee 10years. |
