Her case is not critical...
But, we need to seek a better opinion. And PPUM is maybe more professional....
If you are going for 2nd opinion, you must decide whether you want to do follow-up treatment.
1st consultation will not yield any result as patient is required to go for basic blood and urine test. Results are not immediate unless urgent casses. This will take several days or week. While waiting, are you gonna travel to and fro or stay at hotel ?
As for my trigger finger operation, I have to see the dr at Ruka first. He will then refer me to ortho specialist dept and will schedule another date to see the specialist. After seeing the specialist, I will be given another date for the surgery. All iin, the whole duration from start to finish is 4.5 months.
2nd opinion is not helpful to dr in another hospital without a full medical report (test included) and you cant tell the dr that another dr says is this and that. Every dr treats patient differently.
A patient can see few drs for opinions but normally the last dr is the one a patient will seek treatment as he is too confused and tired with the medical jargons and time.
The thing you must know in PPUM specialist clinic is that one is not necessary be treated by the same dr for every visit. From seniors to juniors, they work on rotation basis. You dont have the personal touch similar to private. I have seen a specialist b4 as young as my children.
For your mother case, if cost is a factor, I suggest you can consider UMSC. Is cheaper than other private hosp. The drs are all seniors from PPUM specialist clinics. Some are retired thou. Medical procedures like operations, Xray, scan or whatever are still done in PPUM. The different is time ... things can be done faster because of cost.
Having said that, the cost of travelling and lodging is enough to pay for another private consultation in your hometown or Penang which is nearer. If your are from Seremban or Ipoh, is tough but still manageable.
Seeking treatment in PPUM is similar to other hosp drs. If you are lucky, you are treated by a 'good' dr. The happy part is without having to pay a high price.
