Just thought of sharing my W211 Restoration progress

Backstory of the car: Engine Changed on 2018 For RM12k(iirc) had more problems, so just let it sit and forgotten about it. Main problems were the SBC Pump and the radiator which became teh tarik or dalgona coffee. Came in with high expectations where i thought the repairs would be RM12,000 Max including new tyres, Paint job and repairs. Apparently after my new foreman checked the car out, it was apparent that they had more work than intended as most of my supposedly new parts in the engine had cracks. Anyways below would be the expected cost of repairs.

Purple: Coming Soon

Fully restore might take awhile more. Currently just to get it to run smoothly and mechanically fine. Aesthetics will be later e.g bigger rims and tyre, new coat of paint
Probably will be 25k Max. Worth it or not? Probably not but since i already started might as well finish it

So far the most common problem i had would be the SBC Pump <07' Models of the W211. Prices for the pump varies (halfcut and new bosch ones) as the part numbers are different i think for the e320 it's cheaper than mine. Other than that, depends on luck really.

Hmm. Just curious why would you need to change the entire oil filter housing?

From the teh tarik you mentioned I think its the heat exchanger attached to the oil filter housing that failed. It can be changed separately.

My BMW has these heat exchangers too, 1 for engine oil, 1 for ATF. I swapped these out to air-cooled unit to make sure no more teh tarik in future

what is your model version? My dad old car was W211 E240 Japan Recond, quite reliable back then, sold it after 5-6 years usage with wear & tear services.

meanwhile my bro in law had W211 E270 Diesel, this thing had features as E500, Airmatic ride, sensonic front thingy, massage seat and sunroof. However, last months just spend about 15k+ for engine overhault and gb repair. The airmatic cost him almost 12k last year

Great question, i think its just because job might be easier to replace the whole thing and less room for error.

No 32, has cracks which caused the coolant to mix with the oil

E200K 1.8 UK Import, my dad kinda regretted not getting the 07 when it came out and cheapen out on the 03 (which he overpaid at the time). People usually just swap out the airmatic for a normal suspension hahaha i believe for the S-Class of the same time, people were like "nope not paying 12k for those!"

the sbc thingy, iirc there are few forumers in merz malaysia forum had shop able to repair the sbc pump/ modules. but as it related to brake, i don't suggest to cheapskate on it.

Yeah for the SBC rather not risk it, Usually workshops would just swap out the Brake Pressure Accumulator on the SBC. I got my friend to scan the fault codes, car wouldn't even detect/connect the SBC at all. So I'm pretty sure the whole unit needs to be replaced. Pricing wise, if its above 5k including bleeding, i might just get halfcut two times.. one for spare

Exactly. Item 32 is the only thing that needs to be changed along with its gasket (can become hardened over time). You dont to change the whole oil filter housing sweat.gif

Item 32 (heat exchanger) can be changed for few hundred bucks only

Water-cooled heat exchangers are known to fail due to corrosion. I dont see any of these in japanese makes though, which gives perception that japs are more reliable

I'll ask my mechanic his reasoning on changing the whole housing. I don't blame him if he's just lazy. Interesting Observation on the japanese make.
