Hi guys, i’m thinking to buy a car. 2 cars have been shortlisted:

1. Used Honda civic 1.8s 2020 (milleage below 10k KM, owned by friend) - RM88k
2. New Toyota vios G 2021 - RM82k after rebate

Please give me some suggestions as I’m still indecisive.

Thank you sooo much.

Well a Civic will be more fun to look at, but 1.8's are all SOHC engine so "not so fun when rempiting high rpm, but it moves well in traffic low rpm" ya.. as compared to DOHC engine characteristics "still got oomph at high rpm".

I'd say it depends on driving style.

and for TS question
IF u want space = civic
handling = civic
power= civic
nvh = vios
headlight = vios ( those halogen on civic 1.8s is crap)
cheaper part if spoil = vios
active safety = vios (prevent accident)
passive safety = civic (protect u during the accident)

dont believe the SA crap saying vios is a safe car, go youtube search Vios Asean Ncap and see for your self, the A pillar snap while a much cheaper myvi or axia also wont snap on the same test

I still believe in older 2.4 camry myself for rempiting but the 1.8 civic feels slow IMO. 1.5T ones are fast.
New CVT vios seems very slow laugh.gif

haha, but feel slow doesnt mean real slow
from some few malaysian civic video and some camry video
0-100 from both is similar, even up until 160 , civic take 21.3 sec while camry take 21sec

vios getting slower gen by gen , now doing 0-100 in 13~14second, even slower than myvi which done in 11~12 sec despite same engine doh.gif

If you are coming from Polo 1.6,
the Civic is a clear choice.

Probably you might have financial concerns? If you do, please consider the great handling Persona which is 30K cheaper. New facelift expected in July.

Just 1 question, why your friend want to sell such a new Civic? Just 1 year and selling only 88k? Is there any reason behind this?

if you trust him and his car. that's quite a deal.
do note the interest rate difference between used car and new car. more or less 1%
just remember to put this into the bottom line for your consideration.

if it's me, I'll pick the civic.

the ketam 1.8 better cos

- c segment
- global chasis developed by honda
- independent rear suspension
- larger displacement
- more safe

cons
- anyting that u want in b segment is cons for civic
for example. FC, weight, maintenance, wear and tear parts. bigger tyre rims.

Do get a trustworthy mechanic to check the car out.
A lot of people will give a lot of reason just to sell their car out, if it is honest and mechanic found it is in good condition then can consider it.

2020 1.8 civic for 88k quite worth. Dealer outside seller 2020 civic around 90-95k. new car was 108k. Bigger in size also.

I will pick accord 2.0 slowpoke over civic turbo nia. my analogy is I will pick stability over everythings..

back to ts case, yeah 1.8 might be slowpoke to some, but stability win big over b segment. B segment u masuk highway, feel floaty lor. Once crosswind come, balls slide inside.kek.

and how often people do century sprint and top speed?. rarely right. But stability u benefit from it everytime even u not speeding, u will feel tough.

Drive one year lose rm20k - first year lose the most in new car. Second year probably lose rm15k, third year lose rm 10k. After third year ownership depreciation will be lesser. Buy 5 year old car is best value since depreciation is already probably 30-50% lesser compared to new car. Only thing is when you buy a new car, you get the virgin feeling like getting a new 18y.o. girlfriend biggrin.gif .

Lol. slower definitely if civic not press. If both press full throttle, inferior engine definitely will loss. but rarely see big engine drive maniac like myvi. thats why myvi look fast because other car not tekan.

Performance on the road not indicate real car performance. Some people drive fast do full throttle, some drive fast do 80%/60%/40% throttle.

Throttle input different by each driver. Thats why I laugh see bezza/axia/saga/myvi so proud can keep up with higher cc car in youtube. For sure can keep up, u do full throttle, while car in front do half throttle for sure can keep up liao.

Topkek people. If small cc can keep up with higher cc means higher cc not yet press full throttle.

For sure civic lar.. u get just a 1 year old C segment at B segment price. 2020-2021 full of MCO, FMCO. i believe the car is like new.. Space, stability, handling, power sure civic better. Anyhow is still 1 segment higher and should compare with Corolla. Status also diff. Get Vios only if you prefer smaller city car...

Regret bought new car that time, if my knowledge towards used car is available at that time like ask a mechanic to check or send it to workshop to check before purchase i would buy 1-2 years used car, let 1st owner absorb the depreciation first. Like someone said here. Buy C-segment with B-seg price, total worth it.

Ps: please do a FULL check up or get someone to inspect the car first before buy

Those on YT are mostly modded, which easily faster than stock car with higher cc even both on full throttle.

Locktech Pedal lock. I remember someone posted, his friend's Satria was left engine running in mid valley (but unable to drive away) coz pedal lock saved the day.
That's in a low ceiling shopping mall ah.. you need low loader tow truck to tow anything from basement.

As for street parking.. unless you flatten the car totally touching the ground using airbag suspension tricks.. nothing much can prevent a tow truck dragging it out.

With this situation, i would strongly recommend take the civic.. its a steel to have that low price at low mileage and only 1 year of usage.. the only advantage for vios is the new car smell that's all..
