Hi
I plan to remodel my bathroom. The current design has the toilet bowl positioned at the far end near the window. The shower unit is near the door.
I am planning to shift the shower unit near the window.

I would like advice on shifting of the toilet bowl. Is it advisable as I have received both pro and cons of doing so? My bathroom is quite old.

Advice and recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks

Is your property landed? If landed sure, go ahead with what you have in mind, but if high rise i think better check with management.

No issue with the remodel if is terrace. You need to engage a reliable contractor with knowhow to do the job.

Can you shift the door position instead of the toilet bowl and is cheaper.

Do you have a layout plan of the bathroom/toilet and the surrounding area ? Is easier to advise.

Looking for reliable experienced contractors. The door position cannot be shifted based on personal preferences.

I am forwarding a layout of the bathroom. Appreciate any comments/recommendations

Exchange the position of wash basin and shower. Then install a wall exhaust fan.....if I am the owner.

If the door is a hindrance due to its opening from left to right, then change it to open from right to left leaning against the left wall. The door remains in the same place.

If you move the wc to the current door position, you need to make a new door position. Your 1st post state the shower is next to the current door. Or you meant exchange the position of shower and wc ?

Personally, I'd rather have the sink closest to the door, then the WC, then the shower at the end. Cause I prefer the wet shower area to be as far away from the door as possible. Also don't prefer to walk across a wet area to get to my WC.

But that would mean more relocation of the existing things and would cost more.

Currently, the shower is near the door and floor trap near WC, meaning whole toilet floor will be wet...beside door (before exit) and also wet at WC (if using it after shower).

Ideally separate dry from wet, which for small toilet is harder to do.
So shifting shower deeper inside toilet is good idea, with dedicated floor trap, kerb or sunken shower floor, and shower screen/curtain (option).
May have another floor trap between basin & repositioned WC.

What's the room width? If orientate WC that way, need at least 1m for knee/leg space for average sized person, or more if bigger sized.

Door position, ideally don't face WC but basin.

If this toilet is on ground floor you will have to hack more of the floor slab to lay the sewer pipe, so might as well do more improvement.

The exhaust fan is good, not only for extracting smell but also moisture (prevent molding and paint wear)

Changing the door position is cheaper than relocating wc. If because of personal or feng shui reason, then close eyes to proceed.

The concern is whether is a good job and soil settlement issue after completion.

I have the same question also, ended up not doing. Because the terrace house is old, and plumber recommend to install new septic tank and re-route everything new again.

But I asked them to quote me the cost to install a new WC, it's about RM7k.
Works involve digging into ground, locate the septic tank inlet, and install new pipe to old septic tank.

Agree with this. Usually that's the best case scenario. More benefit too.

Alternatively ....

1. Shower on the left with shower screen

2. Sink next to shower screen

3. Existing sink position is new door.

4. WC remain.

5. Exhaust fan above WC

A separation of wet (left) and dry (right) area.

Avoid shifting something that is unseen and working good.

What is the actual problem that they need to reroute a new sewage pipe to the existing septic tank? Pipe spoil?

They need to dig new and route a new pipe, for new WC.
And since it's ground floor, and old house, they need locate the septic tank, because not very sure where is it.

Ow, meaning there is no toilet now and you want to build a new toilet there?
