I dunno. The whole confinement/postnatal care centers sound like a scam to me.

Do you really need to spend that RM10k-20k for one month of caring for your wife after birth? That's a lotta money. Feels so unnecessary, but the wife will give you a death stare if you don't give her one.

How did our parents' generation do it? These sort of thing don't exist back then. How do poorer people even have kids if that RM10k is literally their 2-3 months worth of salary?

Its not necessary as long your wife can be taken care of ie by parents/in laws etc. Else i don’t think the spouse can take care and need to juggle with newborn. It’s a convenience, less stress and worries. But of course with a price to pay la.

Actually depends on individual, for me l didn't choose confinement centre as l didn't like so many people handling and touching my newborn. And that is even before covid. Not to mention visitors coming in and out etc.

We did confinement ourselves, hubby and l. He cooks and baths baby, while l do others. No bottle feeds, saves time. Nappy changes occasionally, that's all.

Enjoy the bonding time with my newborn. And we survived, now with a 3rd baby on the way.

Good luck to you 😊

I am opting for confinement centre. Planning to return back to my hometown for it as it is cheaper. <RM10K can get single room professional service.

Why?
-my parents /in-laws still have to work
-first time parent, I foresee I will panic a lot if I am alone
-super tiring based on fellow mommies experience if doing it by yourself...sleep all byebye at first month when your body is supposed to be recovering.
-can attend classes and learn how to take care of the baby.
-make friends with other mommies who are going through the same thing
-at centre, professional nurses will look after the baby 24/7, so you have ENOUGH rest, will carry in the baby for breastfeeding session
-other mommies asked me to take note: babies may develop jaundice...the nurses can easily identify it...I don't think I can if I am first timer.

Add on: oh yeah..now the husband can stay together in the centre too

Look at it this way. U have somebody put experienced to take care of ur BB for the first month and u can learn.

And who is going to take care of your wife while she recovers?

Old times usually mother or MIL will do it

Is not worth the risk to diy for the mother and infant. If cant afford the centre, hire someone experience at home.

Depends on individual. If u have the money i say go for it.

From my own experience.. I take care of my 1st baby and 2nd baby by myself during confinement. Although i stayed in my hometown, my mom can only help me cook.

2nd baby i was quite stressed since my 1st is only 2 years plus.. Husband need to return working after a week off.

So for the 3rd baby i opt for a stayed in confinement lady for 30 days. She took care of me and my baby since we woke up till we go to sleep. It helps that the confinement lady is very considerate.. She even cook and entertain my 2 other boys as well (at night and weekend since they go to playschool on weekdays).

Cost me around 7k. Totally worth it. Although i need to spend myself for the raw foods in order for her to cook.

She usually wake me up around 9am.. I go into the sauna for 30min then shower. At the same time she'll bath the baby and put her to sleep.

After that she'll massage for an hour. Then i relax with the baby while she prepare the lunch and take it to my room.

Same routine again starting around 4pm.

So basically.. I was treated like a QUEEN. Tell me who doesn't like that ?

And dear husband.. Whats the value of 7k compare to 40 weeks pregnancy and labor pain that ur wife has to go through ?

I am looking for a confinement centre also. EDD: November 2022. First child. Definitely can't do it on my own laaa.

Got any recommendations for me? I stay in Cheras... I did some research ady la. Got this new confinement centre called Ukiyo by LifeCare Diagnostic Medical Centre. So not sure if it's worth the money although I believe I will be taken care of very well!

If you can afford it, it’s a good place for your wife to recover from pregnancy. Stress free for the first months and let her enjoy
