my 7 year-old daughter had an extra tooth, also called a "mesiodens", that grew in front of her upper front incisor. our dentist removed the extra tooth but the effect of the extra tooth is that one of her front teeth is now rotated. our dentist recommends that she uses non-permanent braces called myobrace for kids.

i've seen a lot of myobrace videos online and all of them suggest myobrace only costs around 200-400 ringgit for the full set of 3 stages. however, my dentist quoted rm3500 for the full set of 3 stages. i asked him why it cost that much and he said it covers the cost of a mould he would use to determine the size, the appliance itself and reviews and photos.

from my light research, it doesnt look like a mould is necessary since the sizes are standard. Im not sure if there are custom-made myobraces available or if this is even necessary.

appreciate anyone who can give some feedback on what they know about myobrace. im trying to figure out why my dentist is trying to charge me RM3500 for something that seems to cost rm300 only and whether or not its worth it to buy from him or just buy one directly from a shop without dental consultation.

I see a lot of ciplak myobrace on the market as well that only costs about rm15 which have good reviews. which makes rm3500 seems very inflated.

Request quotation from multiple dentists if you're unsure.

Also, its like buying Apple product. You pay RM3500 maybe got 1 year international warranty and servicing can go back to same dental without overcharge.

Look long term maybe less hassle.

Seek for second opinion or consultation if possible.

maybe what you found is the cost price of the myobrace.

If buy yourself, if it solves the problem then great but what if something goes wrong.. what will you do?

You're paying for the service and expertise, not just the appliance.
