Hi all, I plan to change my staircase end tail direction to side way. I'm not quite sure how to explain it but I have attached the photo as well as the end result I wish to achieve. Reason to make this change is
1. Better utilization for the space beside the main entrance
2. Hide the staircase from the eyesight upon entering into the house

Is this consider big work? Do u know roughly how much would it cost?

If you know any contractor can do decent work for this, can you share me the contact?

Thanks sifus.

My comment would be as you're introducing a new bottleneck try to make the new 3 steps wider if possible, otherwise moving wardrobe, fridge, sofa, and other big things may be a hassle. If you've already moved in all the big stuff then can proceed.

Thanks sis for coming to rescue again smile.gif

Space there is not really an issue as currently it has about 2.3m from staircase to the wall, and I have sliding door at living room and dining area, so moving big things in won't be too much an issue

From ur pic, i would suggest not to hav the wall if to avoid wat ms. ceo mentioned.... for moving big object.... n normally ppl put up a wall/ partition mostly due to the staircase facing main door.... but from ur photo it is not right?! so this is another option.....

IMO, is not necessary to redo the stairs. When the house is not furnish, is looks bare or odd.

A tall artificial money plant next to the stair can make alot of different. Is how one decorate the house. Youtube and Pintrest are great help.

Thanks for the suggestion, the main reason to put the wall there is to prevent everything being seen in first glance. It hides the staircase as well as allow me to do something besides the staircase and it won't look so messy

I wanted to do a shoes cabinet there actually but the direction of the stairs is in the way. It can be done without altering but it would be smaller and I found it awkward.

I won't alter the stair case direction facing center because the new wall blocks the air ventilation. Unless you owns a corner unit with extra door/windows at the center of the house then it is fine

Yes my windows are actually all at the side wall, there is no opening window at the wall facing car porch except the main door, so air ventilation is won't be impacted

Yes it can but would be small, and there is also a lot of switches there taking up the some wall space and there is no better place to relocate them as well in term of convenience and movement flow. This house has a bit of awkward layout whereby some of the space are not able to probably utilized and require very experienced spacial designer to correct them.
I'm not going to spend too much to correct every single of them but this part is the one bother me most. On the other hand I need to have bigger storage there as this unit is under strata title, while I actually has decent sheltered space outside the main entrance but I can't build any storage there. How about L-Shape shoe cabinet occupying half of each wall and have enough space for using the stairs ? It can also be 75% on wall facing the stair and 25% staircase wall.

Hi Rainshower,

Finally do you alter your staircase end tail direction to side way?
If yes, can you share the result and the estimated cost?
