Ya, last time also purchased more then 80, they give me free member card.

i just got a chin, a cinnamon chin
did some research liao now wanna try out.
want to ask, i request for timothy hay in pet safari, they din sell, they gave me alfalfa hay instead, is it the same?.
bought its food pellet, and some safewood for him to chew, a water bottle and dustbath,
seems like my chin does not like the wood, does not eat the alfalfa, and didnt see him drink,
only see him eating the chin pellets, is it because the chin is still new to the environment?.
but he likes the dust bath that i bought.

i went there too, before u chiensey, maybe a week before u when theres 4 chinchilllas there, got 1 from there, their price is 650-850, only got 1 chin there is 850 and the girl was honest enough to tell me that the 850 one mata sakit, maybe bcos still got few chins that time. now left the last one dont know she will say or not but hopefully some experienced in chins can rescue it. as for newbies like me watch out pls.

i want to ask, how old is my chin. its about 5.5-6inches from head to toe without the tail in a standing position (salesperson told me 1month), and how big can it grow and takes how long?? if assume all petshop import from same country.

at night i bring the cage to my room at 18c not direct blow is that ok or too cold?. but working hours i bring it down to the living room with airconditioned in open area i assume about 25c cos my mom will be at living room watching tv most of the time during afternoon. is that ok? (i read that its recommended to keep the chinchilla in one spot, yes i know but i cannot afford to on aircond when the area is not occupied so is that ok for me to give him 2 spots one morning and one night? i have no choice family sure complain waste electricity summore now tnb wanna increase bills)

generally, around 10-15 years. but some have lived to 20 years and a bit more than that.

chinchillas like routine, which is why it is preferable that they have a fixed spot. but i understand your point about electricity bills! everything's just costing more and more these days! i think if you consistently only put your chin in your room at night, and living room during the day (and in the same area within both rooms), soon your chin might get used to this routine and it will not be such a bad thing. keep an eye on your chin to see how it is reacting to this change of spot. most importantly is that the area where you put your chin in the living room must be quiet, as they sleep during the day. if its noisy, and they can't get good sleep, they will get stressed.

btw, does your chin make a lot of noise in your room at night? i have read some ppl's experience, and they say their chins make so much noise playing at night that they have to move the chin out of the bedroom  biggrin.gif
*
yes for the first day i got the chin and it make sound during night when i was asleep, after that no sound already, yes doin the same routine everyday hehe,

As long as no direct, is ok. As long as all the temperature below 30c(tolerate, fighting for life), below 25c(acceptance), below 20c(normal), below 15c(enjoying) biggrin.gif

I didnt see your chin, it is very hard to tell, and IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to hv a chin 1 month all at your home. I assume should be 3 months now.

ok so how long it take to reach adult size or full size,
so i don need to worry max all the way lor hehehe.

mr chin, do u know where is the most suitable or experienced vet in klang valley for chinchillas?. i read on a website, regarding most common disease that a chinchilla might get, like fungus, sore eyes, red ears pneunomia, uneven teeth. like you have teach us in forum fungus can be treated by buying anti fungus powder from pharmacy, i already got one standby.
sore eyes i read from website is not to give them dust bath for few days to see whether it improves. uneven teeth buy some calcium stuff for them to bite,

how bout red ears or pneunomia? this one must bring to vet? cos my friends chinchilla i see ear got abit reddish veins his chin is beige colour.

Red ear is due to heat, too warm or they just wake up from sleep(even in air con). You just need to make sure your room temperature is tolerate-able, if not your chin will be very suffering. You will see red vien on the ear appear if too hot.

For uneven teeth, dont use calcium chew block, use chew wood or chew toy or apple stick or chew block or HAY. Calcium is not something can be given freely, it will cause the chin body to 'think' too much calcium and become calcium lose. So calcium block is not good choise to use for uneven teeth.

We have not see your chin picture, can you show us? we been waiting for sometime....
*
no probs give me few days, snapped pic with my bros camera but im waiting for memory card reader now.
apple stick u mean is the apple tree branch is it?. i bouight it but my chin dont like it, i oso bought lava bites, my chin bite it for first 2days then completely ignored it hahaha, gave him empty toilet paper roll and cardboard oso dun like it, now i duno what to give him, when i set him free he go and bite my door and wire doh.gif

ur tips and info given are always the best, haha hope u can list down ur own malaysian chin faq in the first page so that can help the new comers as well. cos most of the website weve seen like chinchilla health, fungus = take ur pet to the vet, diarrhea = take ur pet to the vet, constipation = take ur pet to the vet, swollen eyes or tearing = take ur pet to the vet hehhee. i wish if only malaysia vets are expert in chinchillas

okay, i am here to confess, my chinchilla had died today at 1.30pm i managed to rush home from work after receiving distress call from my mom. he was a cute little guy that i thought would bring joy to the family but it did not, it bring more pain then joy all i can say because my mom is still crying now. my dad had passed away this year which is unreal so i thought of keeping my mom busy by having a chinchilla. we had 2 dogs before, both shih tzu and one died last year at the age of 13 and the other was 4years old which is still with us.

lets get on, i am the cruel one who caused my chin to die, improper lack of education and no experience. i tot that keeping a chin is as easy as keeping a dog, well, just aircond, hay water and pellets, no treats, fulfil their basic requirements thats it. its not, i dont know what causes my chin to have diarrhea, but i suspect too much alfalfa maybe i might be wrong. ive bought alfalfa and timothy hay plus kaytee pellets since we brought him home, but i notice he does not touch the timothy hay, only to realize that because the timothy is "1st CUT" when he had the diarrhea problem, that means all the time he was only eating alfalfa hay 100% and and the pellets which consist of alfalfa as well.
thanks mr chinchilla for rectifying the problem for me, but i guess it was a little too late, he definitely loves the orchard grass and timothy that i bought from oxbow, his droppings are getting harder but hes having weightloss still, i went to work this morning and he was okay still, still eating and running around, until my mom woke up and saw him lying on his side, gasping for breath. which is just a short 3hrs after i went to work, i was so shocked when my mom called me. i rushed home only to see that he is fighting for his breath and on his sides, he tried to move but he cant, then after 10mins of difficulty he made a sound, and then he moved but a minute later he died. no more breath.

i will definitely never get a chinchilla for now, unless i know what i am doing, and if only i know there is a vet for me to go incase of emergency. i still couldnt believe it, just a month plus after bringing him back from ikano, he was timid that time and hiding wouldnt let us touch, but for the last two weeks he was so nice us, he always come near to the door of his cage when we walk near to his cage, letting us massage his neck, feed him with hay. and i have not let him out of the cage ever since he had diarrhea , which was for a week. so i did not notice how bad his weight loss was. it was another big mistake. i will post up some pictures of my cute little boy by this week. well, pls share your comments and post here if u know any vets that could treat chinchillas. surely will help others. jjoy to see a new chinchilla being introduced to the world but sad to see it fall under the wrong hands.

im so lost, if only there is a vet somewhere in klangvalley that can treat my boy, then i dont need to act smart by telling my mom its nothing to worry about just a small matter. sigh. news paper i changed twice a day, ever since the diarrhea occured, but before that i change only once a day, other than that hmm im using reverse osmosis water which i change sometimes once a day or twice a day not more than that. maybe stress related or food i dont know, i only know 2 days before his diarrhea my neighbour kids came to my house and tap his cage. other than that i just leave him alone, i dont know but most likely is me who is lacking of experience, few years ago i kept 2 bird cockatiel, they died and i have bad experience after that so i do not want to keep bird anymore hmm not me actually, my mom wont let me cos is bad karma. so now i tot chinchilla would be ideal but have such a bad experience. sigh

mr chinchilla may i know if u have any bad experience in keeping chinchilla before? u have somany chinchillas all of them were perfectly healthy no casualty?

deeply missed rip 22.07.2008 1.25pm

what colour is this chinchilla may i know?

Added on July 22, 2008, 11:40 pmas u said that it could be sick when i purchase that time, sounds curious, there are 3 chins in top cage, rm550 rm550 and rm800 and 1 chin at the bottom cage ,which is the chin i bought, priced at 700. i asked the sales people and she said that rm800 one had eye problem the rest are fine, so i picked the bottom one, who is alone, why do they wanna seperate the cage 1 alone in the bottom fighting or what?.

but i almost bought the rm550 one because when i put my hand in the cage he come to nibble my hand and very active, but i see him skinny and fur not so nice so i did not purchase. the one i picked dont have any diarrhea or wet bottom, no eye sickness, appearance looks fine but just like to sleep even i touch his whiskers.

I am so sorry to hear that but I hope you won't give up on keeping a chin as they are so lovely as mentioned from you.
*
they are indeed lovely, but its more bad to make them die. i dont know, hes so special to me, he recognise me when ever i go near cage he begs me to let him out or feed him scratch him, if i let him out he will just round around me, wont go too far. not like hamsters only can see them do their own stuff.

It could be many reason, it could be kit that carry bacteria/virus that chinchilla cannot take it, it could be many thing, that's 1 of the main reason why when people ask of me to let them visit my chins, I AM VERY careful of this cause I have friends who let ppl visit their herd, HALF of their herd die on the next day. This bring me an alert.

At pet shop, they like to play with the price, they dont care of what condition of a chinchilla, in fact they dont know also. I did mention that only 1 grey at that time is good to purchase.

Your chinchilla is a biege, look really adorable.

Yes, I been through chin that die before as well at the very begining when I started bough chin from pet store, doesnt mean chin bough from pet store sure die, is just it tent to be weaker due to many factor.I always share the good thing, but I didnt tell you the sad thing happened sometime.
*
since like that pls take more picture, of your chinchilla then people dont need to beg to go to your place. you have beige chin too? hmm so far u are the only breeder in malaysia rite, so i dont think there is any one who have better experience than u, dont know when only got vet specialise in chinchilla.

Thanks for the quick tip on testing the temperature.
Will try it out once I've moved into my apartment.
Yes I'm nocturnal & that's why I decided to get sugar gliders & because of that too I've quit smoking together with my bf.
Having pets is just like having children & I only want whats good for them hence the reading & understanding the needs of the pet.

thanks for caring, im still missing something every morning i wake up. haha i always go down and change newspaper every morning and massage him before work, now i have nothing to do cry.gif hmmm good luck in hunting chinchilla, but i advised u to get ur chinchilla from a reputable breeder le (hehe you know who), you wouldnt be worried about their background history. you will definitely love it till the max. but make sure you did good research, so that you wont end up like me

My chin is only 5 months old, not yet adult right? ermmm... I oso not so sure, however, I will find my way to measure his weight. Need to get a digital weighing scale 1st...

Heng, is ur chin active when he/she having diarrhea? my chin seems like ok... I would say normal and appetite oso ok... but diarrhea still quite bad. Now I have to everyday clean the tile for him.
*
hmm mine is active , eating well, but he is losing more than gaining due to the diarrhea, as i said, i oso dunno for whta reason, 3hours ago hopping here and there actively, next few hours lying on the side already. but might be losing too much weight ler (still, my chin look fatter than the one that mr chinchilla posted when he was in singapore trying rescue the chinchillabut the owner gave to another ppl).
hope urs will be fine soon, the weight on ur chinchilla seems to be ok physicalling la, but i think the best is use weighing scale, use those for baking cake oso can mah cheap and easy,
