Who is TS??

one question to ask Chinchillas, my chinchilla always trying to run away very fast, when i try to approach him, i often let him free run while i'm in room, but i found that he is getting a bit wild, although he did come approach me some time, but he is alway trying to escape when i open door and alway run away when i try to catch him, does this happen to your Chin as well??

Added on April 7, 2009, 9:48 amChinchilla is a RODENT. They will run away when you try to catch him, you can just sit down, wait, don make big movement, keep something on your hands, like a simple treat, alfalfa? later he will come to look for you, feed him.

Letting your chin free run in the room you must make sure your room is chin proof. Chin proof mean they cannot access to any wire, or thing that may be poison for them to bite. You can let your chin run in the room for a short period of time AT NIGHT, not at day, not in the morning. Chinchilla is a Nocturnal Animals, they sleep at day, active at night. Don't wake him up or disturb him while at day time even you see him awake, he still need rest.

I have chinchilla that is very hard to catch when you let them 'run free'. You can see them bounce around the wall. That's why you cage must be long enough for him to bounce and must be solid cage.

Oh thanks, Your your advice is really helpful, i'm trying to make my room Chin prove now, and trying to ignore him even if he is awake in day time..~

How you feed him? i man your routine of his diet.

i just put one grid of Prestige Chin food in his bow every morning, in most time i will keep this cage door open since i am more then 12 hours in my room.

and now i have invented a new why to give him treat, i mix portion of his Food to gather with raisins in a can, so that the food have the smell of raisin, so its more favorable to Don, so i could offer him his dried food ever time he come close to me or climb up to my leg.

haha, control abit on the raisin, just keep to 1-2 raisin a week. You can also use a healthy treat like alfalfa. They will come and grap from your hands as well.

Alfalfa is a type of plant. We usually call it alfalfa, but is called Alfalfa hay for pet owner. SCBOY, i will suggest you read those link on the front page, alfalfa is 1 of the very basic hay for all small animal to use, you must know it.
Alfalfa need to use it wisely, it can be very helpful and it can very harmful if you dont know how to use it in right time, right situation and right amount.

ah! my friend just told me , and i checked the hay that ive been use for months, its Alfalfa!! so i have it already, lolz
im going to Beijing for a week, my house mate will look after my Chin from now on.~~ ho ho ho

wow, 1 week beijing!!!! Well, beside feeding alfalfa hay, ask your friend give timothy hay, that is part of their main diet, infact is very main 'part' of chinchilla diet.

do chinchillas bite ?

Mine don't bite... I'm not a very expeRienced ChinchiLLa owneR though...

Yea secondbody.. my chinchiLLas R the same... I try to Let them out once a whiLe to run and have fun but I don't do it that often anymoRe coz they Run away and don't wanna come back... it's so haRd to catch them.. >_<~

Zeru, chinchilla will bite when they get really scare, over all they dont bite at all.

Jacklene, we would love to see your chins as well, do post up photos to share with us.

The ear spot is the gen problem, your beige is a bit too much of spot for me, these is pet chin. But you can still love them. Which pet shop you get from?
