at its RRP (8.7k) its definitely not worth the price. But currently on promo (7599 + free RM700 tng ewallet credits), its making me consider it
thanks for sharing. I'm surprised you would still go back to OLED despite the prior experience

just like you, I know i will be watching a variety of contents including sports and gaming, so I knew it's not gonna be OLED, I'm not spending more than 9 - 10k+ on a TV just to have it suffer issues in less than 5 years.

my next best bet would be miniLED but the choice is really limited in our market as of now

Samsung is the obvious choice.... its just that I'll need to forget about Dolby Vision, which is something I'm still on the fence now. Some say it doesn't matter, while some who are used to it will say they will never get another TV without it

if what you are after is colour accuracy (since u mention u dont like Samsung colours?), Sony seems to be the best choice but not sure if you are willing to go Sony again after your experience. LG seems ok as well judging from reviews of their 2023 models

Another thing is Samsung TV OS - Tizen which is not my liking
The setting also nightmare to use lolz ..

Sigh, bunch of dead pixels too right of the panel. 77” A80K.
*
That's not dead pixel i think?

More like panel burnt due to high temp ?

Like you place fire lighter onto the panel and heat it.

Havent claimed warranty?

If you ever watch Zack's video of those phone : JerryRigEverything

He has one part of using lighter to burn the screen which kinda similar to your case.

Sony knows they have a very strong fanbase when it comes to TV tongue.gif Some people will die die only buy Sony TV

well we'll see what their 2024 models will bring. They will have a flagship miniled with quite a leap in the tech, but whether they will bump the 90 series up to miniled remains to be seen
*
Most of the PS5 die hard fan always love to promo Sony TV biggrin.gif
Die Die will say Sony TV perfect biggrin.gif

It's quality is good but there are still some cons
1) Dolby Vision cannot co-exist with VRR (well, PS5 also dun have DV not like Xbox)
2) lack of full hdmi 2.1 port (only 2 is sufficient if only 1x PS5 console at home)

I just realized that A80J and A80K has different playback capability...

There are Plex files that I could stream off the A80K but it simply can't be played on the A80J... weird. I thought it was the same chipset.

My 1 year+ A80J is starting to acting up, now it sometimes won't turn on and had to power cycle it first before it will turn on, few times already but not always, so I can't really replicate it if I get the Sony tech to come in.
Anyone experienced it before?
*
Sony QC these years really so bad eh ?

Like the breakdown or faulty cases keep increasing sweat.gif

my friend's first gen A1 OLED is still kicking strong today, whereas many have poor experience with Sony's recent years lineup, most doesn't seems to last long, lots of complaints on reddit

mine seems to be ok for now after I've fiddled with some of the power saving settings, auto off from default 8 hours to 2 hours, and also have totally turn off Bravia Link
Still under warranty until 2025, and another year of SenQ warranty after that, just hope if it wanna die, please die within the warranty period
*
Yea, seen a lot of Sony new gen TV getting more complaint and faulty these years even friends of mine.

Lol .. how come your old default auto off was 8 hours sweat.gif

do u use ur A80J with ps4? my ps4 cannot wake up the TV even when i powered on the ps4... how come ah?  sad.gif
*
You need to turn on the "HDMI Device Link" thing under system there (my last memory cause i sold my PS4 dy)

However, SONY until now and even PS5 still have not fix the stupid-est HDMI-CEC issue.

Good: Turn on/off PS4 = turn on/off TV and switch to the respective HDMI, i can accept

WORSE: when your last hdmi input stays on PS4 slot before you turn off TV manually, then next time when you turn on your TV, it will ALSO turn on the PS4 and force to go to that input doh.gif

Reddit link example

Addon: the Neighbor Company M doesn't have this issue also :\

Old sony TV seems good and last

But those 2020 models onward seems to be super fragile or gg ...

Have seen many friends' one (bought 2020 cause having PS5 that time) kaput within years later.
Those kaput all like black screen suddenly.

If you dig some within this forum, you might find some also.

The infamous "black screen of death" which happened quite a lot in Sony recent years TV sweat.gif

if you dig back previous pages can find some.

If still within warranty period (factory + retailers) , best go claim.

Replace panel by calling Sony or your seller if within warranty.

Else need self pay if out of warranty to Sony.

QUOTE(westlife @ Mar 26 2025, 10:53 AM)
i had this display set of KDL-50W800B which i bought from aeon which ran about 1 year before i bought it... but good thing that time when i bought it it still came with 2 years of warranty despite it is a display set.

during the 2 years, got one time my TV kena lighting strike, and totally blacked out. managed to claim one time warranty which they changed the mobo or something.

during covid kena another time of lighting strike, but already no more warranty, and even i sent back to sony centre to repair, they said no more production of mobo. but i guess even have stock will be very expensive.

that one bought in 2015. also used for 5 years (my own usage) +1 years (display time at aeon due to display set).
if not due to lightning strike, i think it can last about the same as my 42-inch one (which lasted for 10 years+).

replaced with 55A80J. also a huge improvement.  tongue.gif
*
My 50W800B still kicking ,lol ..
Middle i think end of 5th year mobo macam gg then cannot turn on, lucky 5 years warranty and replaced it.

Now at parent house there

yes, if within warranty period, even extended warranty, they will send ppl to repair i am sure. they should be the same.

if after warranty, i am sure just the visit to home to check what prob also need to pay.
yes, agreed that if buy extended warranty, just buy from sony better.

harvey norman also has the extended warranty that can purchase, slightly more ex, but only advantage is beyond repair, they just give u the full credits of ur tv price to buy a new one.

QUOTE(westlife @ Apr 7 2025, 01:35 PM)
yeah. i worried also.. i only have until 5pm today to decide...  sad.gif
ic. yes, i do know that sony centre (even authorised dealer), they sometime bundle the extra 3 years warranty into their package to attract ppl to buy. even lion mas likes to do that also.

yeah, i am also worried, becos i saw many cases here. i worry that my sony TVs will spoil, although the only sony TV i bought so far it spoiled is the 42-inch W674A, but that one also used for almost 11 years before it spoiled so considered not bad already.

so now i dun know if i should add the extended warranty.
but that's it is close to 1/4 of the price of the tv for extra 3 years warranty...
*
For electronic stuff these days, can max warranty just max it.
You never know when it will start gg ..

Specially if default warranty let say 1 year, unlucky 367th days gg , hoseh liao sweat.gif

My Dyson v11 battery spoil on 28th days after 2 years warranty expired mega_shok.gif
To replace, i need pay full price of RM589 + RM60 courier fee to Sarawak sweat.gif
If that time pay extra RM500~RM600 for extended warranties 3 years still can peace of mind
